Kasye and I had to do some running around today and about a mile from the house Kayse gets all excited and starts saying "There's a Bald Eagle".

We were driving on a nearby road called Mill Hill Rd. today and right before Bruns Bridge (a bridge over the Meramec River) Kayse starts excitedly screaming there's a Bald Eagle.

She pulls the car off the road and we got out and I took a few pics and a short video of it.

Kayse can't keep up at all now. lol

I saw a gold eagle in a parking lot once, have yet to see a bald eagle around although I know they are here. Very cool!

Bald Eagles in New Jersey are not as abundant as in Maryland.
My wife and I go to Conowingo Maryland every year to see them.
She took a lot of pics this year.

Last January our local corps of Engineers posted on facebook about an area below one of the dams where lots of eagles hang out to eat etc during that time of year. My Wife and I loaded up our 5 year old on the coldest day we had and went down to check it out. We saw maybe 20-30 different Eagles, in the trees, diving for fish etc it was a very cool sight.

Bald Eagles have seemingly came out of no where all of a sudden. We had never seen one in our lives and then a few years ago we started seeing them regularly on our weekly trips to St. Louis. Then last year we started seeing them locally. And to cap it all off, we had one nail a squirrel in our yard this summer. Some things are worth the effort to preserve/save. Bald Eagles are definitely worth the effort. up

Majestic animals. I am fascinated with raptors in general.

They have the same thing set up in nests down on the Potomac south of D.C.

Anyone interested in birds of prey, falconry, etc., can Google "Bruce Haak falconer" and see references to his books and projects he's been involved with over many years. He's one of my older brothers and this has been his passion for decades.

These two (mates) sit in a tree about 100 ft from our back door overlooking the pond "fishing". We've had them and about a half dozen more (siblings) sitting there and around the area for the last 28 years or so. My wife spotted the first one back then picking at the ice when the pond froze and thought it was a turkey vulture because the bird was so big. Turned out to be an American Bald Eagle shock It must have been picking at a fish frozen into the ice? My wife saw one land in the same tree as they always do and then watched as the weight of the eagle broke the branch it just landed on and my wife was so scared for the eagle as it fell straight down and couldn't take flight as the (huge wing span) wings were being restricted by the tree branches as it fell. My wife said it some how was able to take flight only feet before it would have hit the ground up. It is really tough to get close to them regardless of being so close to them when they are in that tree......found out early what they mean by the term "Eagle Eye" laugh2

Fortunately, they're common here in N Idaho - often they stand sentinel in the trees as I enter town on the road that crosses the lake.
Magnificent birds.

All I need to do to see one or more is walk outside and look up in the sky. I can usually pick out one or two soaring overhead. I live along the Susquehanna River and they are all over the place. Lots of juveniles also. Not many small animals around anymore. They clean everything up.

The bald eagle recovery is a direct result of banning DDT use as a pesticide. Once it got into the Eagles food chain they were unable to produce eggshells with enough strength and their numbers plummeted.

It’s an example when the epa was exactly on track with addressing a problem and solution (at least I think they deserve the credit).

The environmentalists are not always right, but this time they were.

We cruised the Alaskan inside passage a couple years ago. Stunning beauty and Eagles everywhere. Grab a cocktail and walk the deck.....you'll likely see one. Beautiful!!

When my wife first saw the eagle decades ago she started to do some research on their history in the area and found there was a very large nest supposedly about 20 miles west of us near the shore of Lake Erie. Then months later we were a little annoyed at cars parking on the road side just to the north of our home with people with binoculars looking across the field at the tree line. At the time we had moved here there were no houses on the west side of the road for a mile except our home and past that our road dead ended two tenths more. So what was all of the fuss........one very large eagles nest. It was huge and for years later we would see the young eaglets one or two at a time and see the parents bringing back fish from the river (one of the best steelhead fishing rivers in the state) just down the valley across our road. I thought that maybe the huge eagles nest may be the famed "world's largest eagles nest" but it wasn't and still believed it to be 20 or more miles to the west. Fast forward to a few hours ago and I do an internet search for the supposed WLEN and find out it was about four miles away from us and in the same township as we live in, It was in the 1920's and studied by Case Western Reserve and a replica (re-body wink ) of it was built and in a County Metro Park in LaGrange, Ohio and listed as a U.S. Roadside attraction. Never knew this until this thread THANKS!

last February I was flying the balloon in the St Croix river valley at the Hudson Wisonson balloon event. I had a bad eagle fly just below me about 1/4 mile away. that was a sight. only had my cell so didn't get a chance to snap pic of it.
