An interesting article I just came across and read.

Obviously this is not a scientific study, but based on what I see on the roads and the people I know that I ride with, there is definitely at least a kernel of truth in a lot of them.

Really, which do you have a problem with:

"Rolling Stops. People who don't come to a full stop at a stop sign can't be trusted to handle details. They literally and figuratively cut corners, both on the street and in the workplace.
Tailgating. People who tailgate (i.e. leave less than one car length per 10 mph) are unimaginative. They assume that nothing can go wrong and are caught by surprise when the unexpected happens.
Road Hogging. A road hog insists on going either below or at the speed limit rather than pulling over and letting a line of cars pass them. This is classic passive-aggression; road hogs will bog down any and all initiatives at work.
Finger Salutes. People who feel it necessary to express profanity at other drivers (especially while driving away) are usually frustrated and a bit cowardly. At work, they can be counted on to backbite and gossip.
Over-honking. These are people who honk longer than necessary, like a full second (rather than a polite tap) at a driver who hasn't noticed the light has changed. Over-honkers tend to be both overly-critical and overly-sensitive to being criticized.
Texting. Driving while texting is more dangerous than driving while drunk. Anybody who texts or emails while driving is a dangerous fool and cannot be trusted with any responsibility whatsoever, at work or anywhere else.
Speeding. Habitual speeders are like my former boss. They don't really care about other people and they don't think the rules apply to them. At work, they are the jerks that make everyone else miserable."

I'm surprised though, they left off they left off the proverbial "lack of use of turn signals" In my millions of miles of driving, I have found nearly 90% of times signals are legally required, they are effectively useless, and sometimes even a distraction when used by others. I guess I'm different, I can pretty much sense what others are going to do and allow for it, and not waste my time worrying about others "illegal behavior". biggrin

Yes, driving is a great indicator of a persons character and sense of self importance. That being said, I have used my horn 13 times in over 4 decades, never texted while behind the wheel, last time I was stopped was for going too slow past another leo traffic stop, I believe narcissists only drive in the left lane, and I have never waved less then two fingers at anybody..

To save a long long explanation, I am the drivers manual driver and what one might think that says about me would not even be close. All of these studies are based off a group of societys norms and human nature.

If you grabbed a man from china directly off a plane and put him in a car on our roads, would you come to the same conclusions?

In time, IMO likely yes, but with the imprint of his upbringing.

B.S. to me too. I am an aggressive-aggressive driver, no need to be passive at anything! Only the strong survive while driving, and I think anyone killed or maimed in an "accident" is truly an idiot! Any questions? runaway

Someone once said, "there are 2 types of people: those who generalize, and those who don't".

Or maybe I once said that.

Anyway, FWIW, on occasions where it makes sense, I've rolled a stop, and fairly often exceed speed limits in clear, empty highway driving.
I maintain my stuff religiously, and pay attention; no phone, sometimes not even the radio/stereo.
I'm detail-oriented, responsible and considerate of others to a fault; so there ! laugh2

Well, gee... Some days I'm a horrible person, and other days I'm the best guy around, according to that guideline. As long as you don't catch me on a bad day, everything will be OK, but if you happen to catch me on a bad day, I'm sorry ahead of time. devil

I've been on both sides of nearly every issue listed, except for the texting. I don't ever text, I don't think I have it enabled on my flip phone.

I do find it interesting that some people feel qualified to determine a person's character by one activity they may do. It completely leaves out the possibility that they may be having a bad day, or they may have below average abilities for that single activity, but some people expect everyone should have above average abilities for the listed activity. The law of averages says that for every item that is above the average, there is an equal amount of items that are below the average. Driving is the same way. Gene

I drive differently depending on what I am driving. I do not drive my bike like I do my car, if I did I would be dead.

I generally follow the rules, use my signal and not only know how to merge on the highway do so properly. Though I do tend to push the speed limit by 2 mph on the highway. But at 75 it's pretty much in my comfort zone anyway.

I agree total BS. My driving style does not even come close to his personality description.

On a side note I made the observations that you can tell what kind of person an author is by the articles they write.

If they write articles about food they are self conscious and have needy personalities.
If they write articles about cars they usually know little or nothing about driving a performance car.
If they write articles indirectly criticizing others they are generally insecure, self absorbed, and of little use to the world as we know it.
If they write articles on Moparts they like to argue with rocks, lack a focus of the topic being written about and generally like mental and physical abuse.

Denial is common in many negative traits, like alcohol abuse , drug addiction, spousal abuse, and likely self centered driving styles.

"BS" claims without supporting reasoning might also rise to the level of denial. stirthepot

There were 6 negative traits listed in OP's article, didn't see many attempts here to individually debunk them.

I'll take it a step further, you can also learn a great deal about a person playing 18 holes of golf with them.
I can list some of the telling behaviors if needed.

Who cares? It's his opinion and no one needs to justify that to you.

As for your golf claim, you'd learn diddly about me. I don't play golf.

Hmm, I rarely keep score when I play. What does that tell you?

JC You have gone ultra-ignorant on this one. I will say possibly my only reason im a text book driver is maybe I like to keep my money, no tickets, no accidents and USAA really seems to like me for this reason, like $450 a year like. So I dont need to debunk your internet Freudster list because it dont apply. You need some professional help.

I dont think its that, its just the moparts wanna be Dr. Freud type who seems to think he knows things really doesnt know dick. And due to site rules a proper reply, at least from me isnt allowed. My point is, were grown men here, who the ++++ does JC think he is trying to play little games and make assumptions. This crap would not fly in person, no place, no how, in no manner.
