actually the cast iron pump is shorter than the aluminum pump. you can check, the cast iron pump is 4.625 from gasket surf. to the pulley mounting surf. i couldn't get to my alum. pump currently. looks like your water pump pulley is for the C.I. pump.

Thank you for the water pump pulley part number! Looks like I have the correct pulley for a 1970 340 aluminum water pump. Only pic I have right now is a partial pic of the number, but when I zoom in, it looks like 2951836.
