I know that most are going to suggest that I use TTI's, but is there a more "slightly" economical brand that would fit a '74 Duster/ 451 B engine combination for street/strip use?? Part Number??? I run TTI's on my 71 Challenger race car, but I can't justify spending 1400 bucks Canadian on a set for this Duster!!

The cheapest way (assuming you have manual steering and no column shift) is a set of Hedman 78030 B-body headers.
Mine only needed a few dings and they're about 1/4 the price of the TTIs.
There are a few other headaches (such as the collectors not lining up with the crossmember clearance humps).

My buddy has Schumacher Tri-Y's on his 383 70 Dart. They were on his 64 Belvedere with the 383 before he made it into a Max Wedge clone. I didn't hear about any struggles to get them to fit and he said he only had to get about a foot of pipe bent up to adapt them to the existing exhaust on the car.

I used both Hooker and Hedman fenderwell headers in my old Duster, the Hedmans fit better up

As I've said before, the Hooker fenderwell headers were a big hit... they hit the tires. They hit the ground. They hit the steering. Etc. whistling
Not to mention roasting my (and any passenger's) feet due to the position right behind there.
For a drag-only car that you don't mind cutting up, I could see it, but OP wanted street-strip. shruggy

Tri-Y's are good up to 450(?) hp. They'd be a good but somewhat limiting choice, depending on his plans for improvements later.

Doug's makes a small block header that is almost identical to the TTIs. Does Doug's make a big block header?

Price a set of custom, stainless and pay more than 2K just for the material. Makes the TTI's a bargain. I don't know how smaller they can make them? FWIW the one's on my 73 Dart Sport 400 B engine are huge. Like 4 ft. long! It's these here. They take up a lot of space and supposedly won't work with power steering. I couldn't get the column gear linkage to work on mine. TTi says MAY need modification. So add $300 for a new cable shifter of your liking if it's auto.

The B body headers sound like a bargain. Nothing wrong with a cheap header if it works. (works well enough for its owner). Maybe a B body Hedman header but their thicker steel Elite series? Still affordable but more durable than entry level thin tube thin flange Hedmans?

Keep old mopars alive.

They look like works of art, and they should for $800-1100...
They're also huge because they are 2 to 2-1/8 tubes and a 3-1/2 collector! Does your 400 turn that many revs that you really need a header that big? Don't really big tubes have a detrimental effect on mid-range and bottom end, too? work

I don't know anyone who has used the B-body Hedman Elites. Not sure the tubes run exactly the same either. Anyhow they're expensive enough that other A-body headers start to look like a better choice for a little more money... twocents

What you will save in $$$$$ you will gain in headaches!! TTI or Proparts. I put Proparts in the Valiant and was amazed how easy they went in.

A big thanks to you all who chimed in here. I think I'll dig into these Pro Parts ones....especially if they are made by TTI as Cab mentions. I'm definitely not a fan of denting and massaging tubes...been there and done that. It would just be nice to have a gorgeous ceramic polished set that doesn't look like they were dropped from 100' in the air!!

Not sure if the Pro Part headers are in stock....I emailed a few months ago and was put on a waiting list for when they available and never heard anything yet.
