I'm contemplating an intake manifold change from the '69 to '70 ~ '71 style. I'm wondering if I can use the older choke or do I have to change to the newer choke as well?

You have to use the newer, surface where choke sits is higher on the newer one, the older choke hits the side of the carb making in impossible to bolt down.

Ok, gotcha. I was looking at it yesterday (no work has started) and realized the later choke is going to require the later carburetor as well. The 4640s doesn't have clearance for the above surface mounted choke. whiney If I continue with this course I'll need a 4741s carb, I think.

I "think" you will find the same issue with the 4741 !.The problem isn't the carb,it's the intake choke well, one is flush with the carb mounting surface which takes the choke with flat cover, the other recessed to take the choke with raised cover.

I "think" a 1970 style intake, a 1970 choke and carburetor should work together? I know I've seen the newer style choke (raised cover) used with Holley's, I can't recall ever seeing it used with a Carter. It's been too many years since I was a mechanic and these cars were common.

I like this intake because all my stock stuff will bolt up just like stock, at least I thought so until I got it and realized the choke well situation.
