So I'm deciding on steel wheels with dog dish wheels for my 72' Charger Rallye. I do not know if the face on 72' model rims has any difference in appearance then any other years. I want to run 15's and probably have the rim widths widened for better tire choices, but mostly want a stock appearance. I don't care if their are part numbers on the rims and not planning to run trim rings. I was thinking Wheel VIntique's might work, but not sure how 'factory' they would appear. Any info, pics and suggestions would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

Tony's now makes perfect reproductions of the "450" wheels. He can also stamp them with the proper 1972 P/N and dates. This is a correct looking 1972 wheel. The other companies like Wheel Vintiqes just sell steel wheels that accept dog dish caps but also have a different appearance then a factory "070" wheel.

This info makes it easier to decide, hopefully I can source something that looks right for the car. Thanks again for the info and link. I miss old (I think his name was Frank or Dick) from Stockton Wheel. Before his tragic end, he was the local guy to have wheels made and customized and was super affordable. His family took over, but not sure how the quality is since his passing. Will have check them out and see how the work. Also, maybe there could be some 14’s rims that could be used as cores if everything look close in appearance.

The 72 wheel looks NOTHING like a 70-71 450 wheel.

The 72 wheel is 15 x 6.5 and uses a 15" center so the drop to reach the wheel spider (center section) is smaller. There are three nubs to hold on the center cap.

The 70-71 450 wheel is 15 x 7 with a 14" center

If you don't care about the nubs being 3 or 4 because the are going to be covered by a center cap then I would look for B100, D100 and W100. Various years would work.

Then take them to Stockton Wheel. I've used them recently and I have born happy every time. They are getting a little pricey but quality looks good.

That is totally false information, the 72 wheel is just like a 70-71 450 wheel sans the 070 p/n and is also 15x 7. I can't speak after 72 and haven't.

Thank you both for the info. I am not sure which wheels are correct to be honest so I'm trying to get an idea what will and won't work or what wheels would be good donors for it. If anyone can shed some light on that and what donors are similar, I would greatly appreciate it.

Ron,

You trying to compare Apples and Oranges. You are trying to compare a Steel Wheel (450) to a Rallye wheel (070 for 72). Do they both use a 14" center? Yes they do.

HOWEVER this is a question regarding STEEL rims, not Rallye wheels. The 72 steel wheel does have a 15" center. I have one sitting here along with multiple 450 wheels.

Thanks
M426

IMHO You are mistaken again, the rallye wheel is "071' the steel wheel is "070" and is same as a "450"

I have no dog in this debate but I think the wheel part numbers being thrown around here are causing the confusion.
The 70-71 steelie 15 x 7 is 2944450,
The 1972 steelie 15 x 7 is 3580070.
The 70-71 rallye 15 x 7 is 2944390.
The other later 15 x 7 rallye 3580071, called the Canadian version or over the counter rim has a different size half moon opening.
The 15 x 6.5 rallye for 1972 is part number 3466961.
Both the 450 and 070 steelie 15 x 7 wheels have 4 nub centers

Ok thanks Ron. Obviously I was to lazy to go look at my two 071 wheels.

Thanks for setting me right.

Morty I'm not sure by your reply if you are agreeing with me or being sarcastic because again you mention the "071" which is a rallye wheel and not what the OP has asked for. Mccannix has all the info. needed in his post above.

I'm not here to fight with you I was just trying to provide information to the OP. No more no less.

I agree.

Other than the part number, the rare 1972 (drop center, 15 x 7 plain Jane steel, 4 nub) "070" wheel appears identical to the earlier 450 wheel.

In addition, the 070 wheel is even less common than the 450 wheel.

Wow, did not expect this much attention on the wheels. So the 15X7 wheel 1970-72 wheel are nearly the same except for part numbers. So it that, is the case, then I can't use the centers out of a 14in wheel to get the desired wheel look I wanted? So here is another question. Is there another 15in steel wheel I can steal the center from that are similar to the 450/070 wheel? Would truck/car/van 1970-72 model wheels have the look or rim part numbers I could try to source. Once again, thank you everyone for putting the effort in to helping a member out.

It's not the center that makes a 450 rim. It's the wide shoulder. Google an image; you'll see the difference. At one time Dr.Diff was using the outer hoops from a Buick(?) and welding in mopar centers as those rims had the wide shoulder (or whatever you want to call it). I almost think that you'd be better off buying the repo's and widening them. That's my plan.

Migs as you stated earlier your not looking for exact so just buy wheels from Jegs or Summit or whoever in the Wheel Vintiques brand and get the width and offset you desire.
I was merely letting you and whoever followed aware that Tony's Parts makes perfect "450' copies and can also instead stamp them in the "070" P/N and or dates you need/want when this whole debate went off the rails

I'll attach a picture of what a "450" or "070" wheel looks like.

I am not being sarcastic. I was wrong because I had my numbers crossed. If I had gone out and looked at the two 071 wheels I have I would have figured out I was wrong.

I do appreciate that you corrected my error.

If close is ok.
I hit the U Pulit.and grabbed some 15x7 off some Dippys and like cars. Not cop car ones.
Here in the south they had no rust just old paint and light surface rust. But I blasted them anyway for a good start. Cost was 10 bucks each.
I grabbed 10. And then found 2 Ram Chrager ones to get 2 15x8 so I have 3 sets
They make new 15x8 new and would recommend them for 275/60/15 or so. So the tire sits flat.

Very Cool Morty!! Typed words are hard to read into sometimes. I never wanted to ruffle feathers just answer posts that I believe I have the knowledge for.

Chrysler had other 15x7 steel wheels on their cars. I believe the Magnums in around 1978 had those Black 15x7s with the extra holes that are covered up once the Dog Dish Hub Caps go on it. It is a cheaper wheel to use if you do not need that part number near the valve stem. I was going to use them on my Cuda and use 15x8s on the back that are off I believe a Ram Charger.
