I was told by the dealer fleet sales rep to change it at 7500 miles, I haven't done that ever. I was trying to change the oil and filter around 3500 miles. I've heard the oil will quit getting dirty right away after changing once the motor gets broken, between 35,000 to 60,000 miles, mine hasn't done that yet at 151,000+ miles I'm going to try changing it around 5,000 miles now for a while and see if I like that or not Thanks for the help to all of you

I have an ‘02 2500 Cummins 4x4. I change every 10,000 miles I use Valvoline Premium Blue and Fleetguard Stratapore filters. Bought the truck a couple years ago at 130k, I’m at 250k now.
If I can just get the damned thing to STOP going in and out of lockup it’d be a good truck. I might switch to an NV5600 6 speed. Other than that, no performance mods. No chip, no tuner no injectors, stock transmission. I’d really like to turn up the heat on it, what am I missing? More go power would be nice. You need to relocate and sheild that large blk/tan ground wire that runs over the top of your alternator. Made a lot of $$ doing that back in the day. More info on this please:) and thanks Passenger side near the battery..... large blk/tan wire. You’ll see it goes to two gray connectors mounted on the batt tray. I eliminate those connectors by removing the terminals and solder them. Next I remove the wire from the harness past the alternator and cover the blk/tan with foil tape and some black convoluting cover. I then route the wire over the black metal top alternator mount. I’d post picts if photobucket didn’t go to L! If you want picts pm me your phone # and I’ll text them.

I go between 10,000 and 12,000 miles on mine. I have used Amsoil since around 80,000. I send a sample in to be tested every time. 254,000 miles and going strong.

Bought my 07 2500 from Dave Smith over 13 years ago. I’m now pushing 300k. Most of which was up in Yakima. Now in Phoenix. Started running Amsoil 15/40 starting at 15k. Doesn’t use a drop of oil. I change at every 7500 miles. Using WIX filters.

Some are worse than others. My Cat stays fairly clean looking right up to 12,000 miles. My N14 Cummins was black by the end of the driveway. I think ring design and better filtering on the Cat account for most of the difference. Cummins filter specs are considerably more lax than Cat. A Cummins N14 fuel filter is 10 micron. A Cat is 3.
