Anyone run a 2.10 1st gear in any of there cars?
My little smallblock makes 1002 hp and want to try a 2.10 1st gear in my Dart. 4.30 Pro gear.
Just got a new NSX 8" Billet converter and thought it might be better than the stock 2.48 1st gear.
Whats your thoughts?

One would think that would make it easier to manage at the hit. Kinda like when you go to a 1.80 Powerglide from a 727, just not as drastic of a change.

Decreasing the starting line ratio should make the car a little easier to hook up, you will go down the track further in low gear and go into high gear later further down track which means it spends less time in high gear also work
You have a very stout "SB" bow grin
I know another racer (10.5 Outlaw car)that went through the first gear ratio spectrum when he switch from a Powerglide to a 3 speed Pro Flyte, he had both 4.10 and 4.30 for his car also, I think he may have ended up using around a 1.80 to 1.92 low gear ratio to get the best reaction and 60 ft. (1.09 maybe)times confused

That decision is a part of the whole combination. Radial or slick? Power adder and can power be controlled to manage the tire? How sophisticated is the suspension? Track prep anticipated?

An SLR that is too high or too low will make the car a PIA to get down the track. When you find the sweet spot, it makes that task a lot easier.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Want to go quick or bracket race/ no prep it? My bet is unless you chase converters it'll be quicker with the 2.48. Harder to hook, yes. Impossible? No. I've talked to the driver of the record setting NHRA B/S Camaro. 1st gear in the 3.xx range with the rear in the 5.50+ range. Granted way less power but a steep SLR on a 9" tire. Personally mine hooks on 10.5x31 with a 2.45/4.30. Don't know how much power it makes but its been 9.00/150@3350lbs (55%F/45%R). Its been a pretty successful index/bracket car. However of you already have a 2.10, try it.

Car will be much more manageable and fun to drive with the 2.10 low.
You don’t say how much it weighs.
A friend struggled - better yet fought his car off the line making 1K + horsepower. Would wheel stand when it got hold of the track, ran 8.50’s. Tried 2nd gear launch and that helped a bunch and only lost about a tenth.

Eventually tried a 2.20 low and that sun gear lasted 30 runs.
After failing a second sun gear he stuck a PG in it. Says it was the best thing he ever did to the car.

The car weighs 3450lbs.
I tried a 1.80 1st gear and lost .5
It was a dog.
Not sure how much better a 2.10 would be over a 1.80.
I'm sure a 2.48 would be perfect.
But the new transmission came with a A1 2.10.
I hate pulling transmissions so trying to do it right the 1st time.

Shame on me for not asking before - why do you want to change from what you have. What issues are you having ?

What brand and model tranny are you using?
I'm surprised that your using a 8.0 inch converter with that much HP shock work
I know A1 pushes 7.0 inch converters a lot fto their customers but no one else does with that much power work

Bought a Rossler Turbo 400 3 speed ProMod transmission and it came with a 2.10 1st gear. I tried a 1.80 years ago and it was just a turd.
I'm sure a 2.10 isnt much better. 1/8th mile heads up racing is what I do primarily.
I need as much 60 foot as possible to be competitive.

Cab as you can see I bought a Turbo 400

I have a3 speed 400 with a 210 first in one of my cars, and I like it fine. I think it's faster having less space between 1st and 2nd. This car is sprayed, so whatever I lost from the 2.45 I make up with more spray.

If I were spraying, I would keep it but I'm naturally aspirated small block. 5.40 in the 1/8th
1.18 60 foot.
Dont want to lose any 60 foot.
I'm sure I'd lose some 330 and 660 as well.

Ran a 2.10 first behind the 99 Hemi on a 29.5x10.5 with a 5.00 gear. We run a 2.24 first and a 5.14 gear in the Vette on a 29.5x10.5 as well. They both make more power than you are The 99 required some finesse at the hit the SB in the Vette leave with it all in, plus 5-8 degrees at the hit. Good chassis, good shocks and good converter will all be your friend.
