Sample quote

The "Electronic Digital Clock" was a pricey option for the New Yorker in 1977, and Chrysler claimed that it would be accurate within one minute per month. Most clocks from old Detroit cars don't work, but I had my $6 clock tester with me and decided it was worth disassembling the instrument panel to extract and test this chronometer.

"CHRONOMETER" A pretty bold statement for a 1977 time keeping piece not made in Switzerland eh? "Accurate to 1-MINUTE a MONTH" shock Not 1-minute a year or 1-second a month but one minute a MONTH. I don't think they were using it to launch a space shuttle with it. wink Got to love automotive marketing also in the day of "not just any old leather but Corinthian leather

CHRONOMETER:

NOUN

An instrument for measuring time, especially one designed to keep accurate time in spite of motion or variations in temperature, humidity, and air pressure.

Chronometers were first developed for marine navigation, being used in conjunction with astronomical observation to determine longitude.

Still a cool find and article up

Also love the comments on the time it's about to turn over to on the Colorado junkyard found clock : apimp

Brian Johnson • a day ago

aaand you show it turning over to 4:20 .... in a Colorado junk yard. Nice touch!

Jeffrey Youngken • 21 hours ago

Love it, chuckled soon as I saw the Chronometer. Why is it always 420 in Colorado???yeh

I have an NOS Chronometer that I’ve tried to sell. He could have bought it and saved tearing one out.

I don't get the excitement. Same clock with a different mounting bezel was used in late 70s B bodies and I've seen very few of them that didn't work. I have at least (2) working C body versions in my stash now. One of mine did go intermittent so I unplugged the power lead and set it to 4:40. Considered swapping it but have a 90s factory radio with clock and it's always 440 time in that car.

75 Charger SE - 440/4, cop suspension
76 Daytona - survivor
76 Daytona - tweaked
77 PW - macho clone, sno-commander, frankenram
79 RC - this was your fathers 4x4
79 LRE - More fun than it looks

Gee, here I kept that stupid digital one from an early 80s Mopar. I guess I just kept the wrong one. I did power it up a few months ago, and it still worked. It might find its way into my 48 Plymouth when I update it this year. Its nice to have a clock so you can see what time it is... Gene

I must agree, I guess a old lawn chair might be next. Or possibly a bumper jack of old.

One of my Mopar buddies in high school in the late 70's family's car was one of those. Same color even.

Ok, so it's not super valuable, but it's old Mopar and makes us feel good and takes us back. Don't poo poo on it.

Cool. We only had slantys when I was growing up but I thought they were super cool anyway.

Not poo-pooing on them, I've probably installed several of the old style into cars that didn't come equipped with clocks. When the digital clocks came out, I tossed all the old mechanical clocks and installed the digital clocks in the cars & trucks that didn't have a clock.
For the record, the digital clocks are probably not very valuable either. I've financed a lot of dirt track cars and a lot of hot rods by selling many of Mopar's big and small parts. Gene

To your credit, probably. Google it.
