So my $1,800 Banks billet converter failed and bit the input shaft off. Lasted 9 years and 200,000 miles worth of USE. 2004 4dr DRW 2WD, TST PowerMax CR set on 4 and 4 always. Called Banks to see if they rebuild and they wanted to sell me a new one. Told the guy that it failed and I wasn't buying another. The price quoted was $200.00 cheaper from 2009? shruggy I'll save the $1,000 tow bill next time no thanks to you. That's kind of on me. I guess it's time for the cheap, old truck, AAA ERS. It took me 13 hours from the time I broke down to 127miles away. So I call up ATS for a new billet input ($760), pump ($300) and one of their 5 Star converters ($1,300 something). So ATS took my $3,100 some odd bucks and sent me an e-mail for delivery 3-5 business days. So a week goes by, $450 car rental, I give them a call because I hadn't received anything and looking back on the e-mail, no tracking # provided. Turns out they don't even have the damn input! I'm horrified to find out where they get it so I didn't ask. confused Supposed to take delivery of their parts 10/5.

I would rather have got it from ProTrans! The ProTrans/Marcus Wessells ,A&A 727 now in my Dart is and has been a very great piece. I saw the ProTrans post days after purchasing something that wasn't in stock. ATS tranny in my truck has been ultra reliable, sometimes in rather extreme conditions and would probably still be fine if the converter had not failed. Just not a big fan of their sales and customer service is all.

Damn J, tell me about it! mad I sure I wish I had done a little research. I bought the trans. from them with the billet input, deep pan, blah blah in 09 or 10. I had my truck back in like 4 days. Been extremely satisfied with beating on this thing the last 180,000 or so miles. So when it broke, I wanted the parts coming and paid by card over the phone and thought it would be about 4-7 days and I would have my rig back. I really didn't think it was that big a deal. Pump, input and converter. $3,500 and back for another 10 years.
Turns out that as of today it's been almost 4 weeks since I ordered parts from ATS. As far as I know, as of this morning, my truck is still on a rack. Pics and info to follow.

Had my Diesel 48RE tranny rebuilt by CRT in Indiana. Converter kept going into lockup at stop lites, so here is what I found when I dropped pan and took filter off. Look closely, there are a couple of issues. He also sent me a V-10 47RE converter the first go around and then a diesel 47RE the second time. Finally bought a 48RE locally cause this had drug out for months and I needed truck. Guess how much help he was when it was all said and done. He offered to pay me for the first wrong converter when I sent him the second one back, and this was after he had told me he would take care of swapping converters. I told him if he wouldn’t honor his word, to stick it up his a$$.

Same here....... There are so many other reputable builders out there now.

I have broken every TCS input made so far frown but have been using DPC converters. Lifetime warranty. Granted blowing up input shafts doesn't warrant fixing my converter for free but every time I send it back.... awesome customer service.

You found them! Then to top it off, he sent me a converter for a V-10 47RE. Felt like mush, then he sends me a 47RE diesel converter. Finally had local shop put correct converter in. John initially told me he would cover the converter swap, but in the end only offered to pay me for the 1st converter I purchased from him and a little something for the valve body issues. Told him to shove it. Will have someone else tear it down again, as I’m not comfortable with it. It is my tow vehicle for racing, and a lot of late nites driving home, home teach is 300 miles away. $3500.00 in it so far. Jim

I would definitely take that trans. apart. That's pretty crappy as I've heard pretty good things from others on here about CRT. Is the stock power elevated in your truck? I know you haula$$ if you're 300 miles from the track in AZ. I have a TST PowermaxCR set on 4 and 4 always. I can tow my rig anywhere in the US at or above the speed limit. Doing that beats severely on this thing. If the input is the wink link every 180,000 miles so be it. This truck is the best thing I ever bought.

You finally get back on the road Dave? A friend of mine had an 06 2500 4x4 with the TST..... towing a 53ft gooseneck living quarters trailer with 1 car and two jrs. It was crazy how well that “wrong tool for the job” tugged that trailer down the road. He got rid of it a couple years ago for a 17 3500 HO dually. While he loves the new ride, he laughs that his 06 had more balls!

My total weight towing is just shy of 18k..... 150k+ on my home built 47re with Goerend converter and valve body kit and I tow pretty easy so it should last a good long time. I was lucky enough to score a complete core at work so I still have the OE Trans all freshened and bagged up ready for assembly.... but I wonder what shape those seals would be in since they’re 16 years old. Man where did the time go!!

It was a crazy, expensive, long ordeal due to some shipping issues. Took 4 weeks and a few days. Cost me a ton with the lost time and the car rental. There's no easy road out of here. It's all every direction of the compass and rapid elevation changes. With new tires, shocks and brakes it's back to the cowboy Cadillac. The ATS converter seems a little mushier on lockup which is good. You definitely know what gear you are in while driving my pickup. I have to correct my earlier ASSumption on the Banks converter. The input shaft broke, plain and simple.

I have an Edge box that is in Tow or Economy mode only, 50hp? injectors and a Banks intercooler. I normally run 72 to 75 mph, as that’s kinda the sweet spot for power and mileage. Gross weight is right at 19,000 lbs, so I’m not beating on it. Yes I plan on getting it redone. Funny part is, if you had asked me a year ago about CRT, I’d have said thumbs up. Don’t know what’s going on with John, but one deal like that really leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I had considered us friends, I bet I have hauled 40 to 50 cores out to him, first load was when he first struck out on his own and was working out of his home garage. I had sent him 3 47/48 diesel cores in with mine. Something has changed there. Jim

My ‘05 looks a lot like yours, and it has been one of the best trucks I’ve ever owned. Never left me stranded anywhere. And, it’s still worth almost as much now as what I bought it for 10 years ago. Don’t see that happen much with trucks. Ranchers around here are always looking for the 5.9.
