I hate to say it but I see where he's coming from. You price things for a reasonable price and people automatically think it's a fire sale and low ball you. You price things at what they are worth and no one calls. If you want something, buy it. You only live once and cant take anything with you!

Yep he sure showed them. What a Dumb you know what. Instead of something he got basically nothing. Scrap is way down. Ha,ha another Einstein.

Did he swap in an LS first? That would take some of our pain out of the crushing.

Though I think it was stupid what he did I very much understand the frustration, you would not believe how many people will send me texts or other messages when I have something for sale that just ask if it's still available and never reply after that or flat out low ball you without ever having seen the vehicle in spite of the fact it says in the add the price is firm. The non stop non sense will drive a seller nuts.

His car he can do as he wishes, but who did he really teach a lesson here? Seems his asking price was maybe on the high side, but was getting low ball offers. So he scrapped the car and basically got pennies on the dollar for what the car was really worth. I agree that having items listed online can be a pain dealing with people esp with the low offers and the no shows etc. I go to work and earn a paycheck and that ain't no picnic either... I sure wouldn't have just scrapped the car and lost a few grand just to prove a point.

Every single car that I restored I sold for 50 cents on the dollar. There simply is no money in it for most people and he probably saved money over actually working on it. Also...I've sold many cars. Most potential buyers suck. I had a guy come from another state to get a car I had with 1600 miles on it. I told the guy the price was FIRM. He flew in and was going to drive it home. He got to my house, agreed the car was perfect, then proceeded to hand me 3 grand less than we agreed on. I counted it then handed it back. He then said he had some more in another pocket but I told him to "f" himself. My wife and I got into the car and drove to the gym leaving him standing in my driveway. I didn't answer any of his 50 calls and texts over the next several hours. One week later I sold the car to a young kid who was more than happy to give me my asking price.

Almost did something similar. I had a real A12 1969.5 440 6pak hemi 4 speed, super bee in pieces, and a 1 of 4 70 charger also in pieces with a garage FULL of everything including extras, you name. I inherited all this junk so to speak, and wanted rid of it as I have zero interest in anything but race cars. Trying to sell this junk even with galen letters, and ALL supporting docs was a 2 year night mare. I finally sold it all to a buddy with the condition that every last piece of it was hauled off at once. Had he not arrived, and bought I would have dumped it all in the land fill, and had arrangements made to do so. Talking to every booger eating mopar moron in the country made me furious. Even had several accuse me of scamming, and they weren't real because I only wanted 20 G for all of it. Stupid GD poor idiots drove me nuts.

The charger got sold at mecum for 75G, and they were still working on the 69.5 when last we spoke. That old rust bucket that got crushed, I hope the person aggravating him about it dropped dead when it was crushed. Would have been better to have him sit in it and crush both wastes of time at once.

Couldn't have said it better myself. In 1970 my dad quit drag racing and was selling off all the stuff. It was a nightmare...tire kickers, coupon clippers, scammers who would Jew my dad down and then flip it for profit...that really pissed the old man off because all those guys had the same sob story...I have a wife and 5 kids and I just want to do a little drag racing and then they pull that.

But the straw that broke my dads back was a really nice Offenhauser 2x4 intake. That was the last piece left. The old man figured he never sell it at the price he wanted. So he did one more ad (1970 so you younger types may not know what putting an ad in the paper is like) and cut his asking price in half. The ad runs out and my dad says well, it will sit on the shelf and when I die, throw it in the casket with me.

Couple of weeks later we are working on the dirt bikes and a guy calls and says he interested in the intake. So my dads says we are in the shop right now so come look at it.

He gets there and he's looking it over. My dad had already cut his asking price by half and this joker offers my dad 10% of his original asking price. The old man says way too low. And here is where the perspective buyer blew it. He says I've been watching your ads for a couple of months and no one wants it. I'd be doing you a favor by taking it off your hands. At least you d get something for it!!!!!

My dad says for that kind of money, I'd smash the manifold with my sledge hammer and throw it in the trash. The guy says you wouldn't do that. Out comes the hammer, the old man beat it so badly that it would never be useable again and then walked over and threw it in the garbage can.

Then my dad says SEE YA.

So yes, coupon clipping, tire kicking cheap skate lying parts flippers can wear you down to the point you rather scrap something than give it away so some other puke can make money off you.

Screw those people.

I have had luck by posting text only. That helps weed out the shat birds some. Pricing something a tad high then lowering the price till the phone starts to ring helps target a fair price. Changing the add a bit and reposting helps. Some stuff just takes forever to sell, like some used race parts. I traded a bunch of aquired gen3 hemi stuff for a built trans and came out better than expected. That stuff went to a trans buidler that also built engines.
Some things just never sell easily. I have a bare 65 dart hardtop in excellent shape and can't get any offers on it! I find it hard to have it crushed!

Mad scientist- Back in my machine shop days, we had a funny incident that was similar. A foreman on a construction crew brought in some actuator shaft of some sort on a Monday afternoon, and asked if we could fix it. (Think 1.5" dia x 10-12" long, splines at one end, index arm at the other, hardened material.) My boss says we could. It was broken, mind you. Len gives the piece to this one crank of a machinist and says "Bet you can't fix this." Sure enough, Jerry does a really nice job of repairing it. The construction guy had said he really needed this thing back ASAP, as it being broken was causing all sorts of logistical headaches, and a new one was a week away. So, Jerry does a nice repair inside of three hours, including stubbing, aligning, tacking, checking for alignment and true, tacking, welding, re-machining, and hardening. The piece was mint! The guy shows up to pick up the part, and Len tells him $240. Three hours labor. The guy says that's way too much. Says it should be no more than $150. Len says "You sure?" The guy says he's sure, so Len takes the piece back out to the shop, puts it in the chop saw and cuts it in half. he brings the guy back two pieces and says "Here. Go get it fixed somewhere else, then." Then, he turned and went back out in the shop.
