I have a box of distributor caps and cant figure out which is which. Does anyone know how to identify the difference between electronic caps and point caps?

AFAIK cap is the same for points and electronic. Generally true. Exception are the dual point - prestolite caps, which are also used for the direct Connection magnetic pickup race ditributor (aka tsach drive distributor) They have spring loaded carbon centerthat contacts the rotor.

The ones with the floating carbon plug hooked to a spring is the Hi Po cap for the race and Hi Po distributors, both points and electronic. You need the rotor to match it also which has a flat brass piece form the outer edge into the contact in the center of the rotor with the carbon plug The other cap is for the non Hi Po distributors with the rotor that has the raised of thin metal flexable tab in the center to touch the pointed tip going through that cap to the coil wire contact
