I'm going to DIY some body work on my car and am wondering if any of the companies like I see selling aerosol touch-up paint on Amazon are worth dealing with. Can't be DupliColor since this is a color that they don't offer cuz it's either "too old" or too low demand.

I've looked at a lot of reviews for multiple vendors and none of them seem to be even close to a "no brainer" choice. Honestly, they all seem somewhat hit-or-miss from the reviews.

The other options I can consider are having the local auto paint supplier mix me up some to use w/ a Preval sprayer (never actually tried one before) or some shops -- I've heard -- can mix their own aerosol cans on site.

All feedback on this is appreciated.

Yes, here in central PA, our paint supply store will make you up spray bombs, the ones I have had worked really well too. Good luck

I don't know what car or color or area of repair you're dealing with, but rattle-can colors will almost certainly not be an exact match.
Also, enamel & lacquer don't play well together, and you can get a reaction that wrinkles either the new paint or the old.

Car 1 has an older single-stage acrylic enamel GB5 repaint that I'd like to do some cosmetic work on. Car 2 is a 2002 with factory 2-stage paint (urethane?), but I am going to take on some isolated rust issues and hope to get a "reasonably close" match after the repairs.

I found the local paint supply shop advertises custom blended & filled aerosol paint cans, and am interested in whether that "should" be a better option than the Preval approach.

IMO anything is better than using a Preval sprayer. Again IMO they are an absolute last resort only

Never asked for an exact match in the original post, he wanted something easy and quick from the read of it. The dude is obviously not Iinterested in starting over in the area, but your response makes sense- if O.P. wants flawless, get a pro to do job. Otherwise, be at peace if you do the work and it's not perfect.

I have used Preval sprayers to epoxy prime all sorts of small parts and even larger things in sections. I would feel 100% safe painting something smaller like a hood hinge, bumper brackets and so on with a Preval. Not so sure you would get a nice blend going up against an already painted surface with one???

They are very finicky with the amount of solvent. Not enough and it's orange peel city. Couple ounces more and you run the risk of runs and sags. With primer it's no big deal as you can sand flaws back out. Paint is just not as forgiving.

I've used https://www.automotivetouchup.com/ several times and recommend them. They sell rattle cans of match color for just about any make/model/year, including, for example, more than 2 dozen Mopar colors for 1969.

I painted the rear and front bumper covers, part of front fender, door handles, and rocker panels on a modern BC/CC car with excellent results and match. For base coat, used their one-component rattle can, but for clear coat, used their made in Germany 2-component rattle can with required 3M respirator ($20). Once you mix the parts you have about a day to use it or lose it.

Admittedly, this was done for a car that was for sale, so I can't vouch for how long it will hold up, but they say the 2-part clear coat is OE quality.

I will use them again.

Interesting, 'cuz AutomotiveTouchUp was one of those Amazon vendors who received really mixed reviews on their products. But you have to ASSume the people writing the reviews actually know W T H they're doing w/ the product, too.

I used automotivetouchup.com, directly ordered from them. Took a couple weeks to get the product. Anyhow I ordered aerosol and a bottle of touch up GY3 curious yellow. Was very impressed, color match was spot on. Touched up some stone chips and used the aerosol to shoot the inside trunk floor. Turned out great has held up for 5 years now. Would order from them again.

I read a long list of reviews of the company last night and was really disappointed at their apparent lack of customer service, slow delivery, and frequency of incorrect orders shipped... definitely NOT confidence inspiring.

I always take reviews with a grain of salt. Very few satisfied customers post reviews. And some of them are paid shills.
On the other hand, nearly ALL dissatisfied customers post reviews. And some of them could be competitors shills. So

If I buy $100 worth of product from them and they eff-up the order and are horrible about resolving the issue, are you willing to reimburse me?

FWIW, I had an old Duplicolor spray paint and their clear coat that was a fairly close match to the GB5 repaint on my Challenger. Unfortunately, Duplicolor discontinued that paint series and color option years ago and I have very little left. It wasn't even a Chrysler color; I found an old Chevy/GMC truck color that seemed pretty close.

Here's a pic of the car's license plate bracket (top) and a metal paint test strip on the bottom I used to see how different colors compared. This is (was) that particular Duplicolor with a light clear coat. Not perfect, but it was decent for doing the engine compartment years ago.

Paintscratch.com. I have had great luck with them. Give them the paint code. The color matches I have gotten from them are spot on.

Yes, I was looking at them. Also, The Auto Paint Depot, since they have a very good customer rating with the lowest negative responses of any of the various vendors I've researched. The primary reason why I'd like to stick w/ an Amazon vendor is because I have a significant amount of Amazon gift card credit to use and it would be a "no cash-flow required" purchase.

I'd still need to go by the local auto paint supply store to get prices, etc., from them. However, their M-F hours conflict w/ my work hours and they're not open on weekends, either. Makes it tough to just "drop by", especially since they're also a different direction than how I got to work from home.
