Building a 340 stroker with factory J heads, 2.02 intake, 1.60 exhaust, bowl ported. 4" stroke, target compression ratio of about 9.8:1, factory 1970 340 cast iron intake, Edelbrock 750 AVS, 340 HP exhaust manifolds, 727, 3.55 gears in a 1970 340 Dart. Flat tappet cam. I was looking at some of the Lunati Voodoo cams, but would like to hear some suggestions for this stock appearing 1970 340 Dart.

Thanks
Darren

Considering the mildly reworked heads, cast iron intake and exhaust manifolds, I think we can assume street motor. And a mild-ish cruiser at that. The OEM exhaust manifolds are going to strangle potential performance. They were OK for 340 ci, but are going to choke a 416. The cam should be designed to help compensate for that.

I used the 403 Voodoo in my 340/416 with a similar compression as yours. However, I'm running an AirGap, headers, 750 Mighty Demon, 727/3200 with 3:91. Buddy ran the milder 402 Voodoo in his 360/408 built the same as mine with 2400 stall. I can't recall what other off-the-shelf cams I considered. Perhaps talk to some of the custom cam people for their input. You have choices.

FWIW, some years back I had a 406" LA, iron heads, T-quad on Eddy dual-plane intake, cheap/small headers, A/T, 3.23s, AC, street Duster.
Went with an Engle FT hydraulic 214/224 @ .050, .470/.504, think it was on 110 CL.
Had perfect street manners, a nice bark & lope, pulled very well, got 17MPG @ 70 MPH.
On an iron-head LA stroker, 9.5 is about max CR on 91 unless you've got a lot of overlap to bleed dynamic CR.

If it was me I'd stay with something fairly mild like the old Mopar .528 cam. That one was about 236 @ 050 and 112 centers. I'd probably go one size smaller than that for your car but I'm not into bad street manners anymore. Some people are more willing to rev the engine at every stop light and stuff like that. These days I prefer my street cars to idle fairly smooth.
