Have a externally balanced bb727 that has been leaking pretty good so I'm going to swap it out with one that's been on an internally balanced engine. Is the flexplate the only thing I need to swap out on them or are the the converters different too?

The imbalance IS in the converter rather than the flexplate so you would use the old/orig conveter. Flexplates should be indentical

^^^ that'll take care of it also. & if you pull the converter I would replace the front pump seal & take care with it as you dont want to have to pull the whole shebang back out of there again for a leaker & I think they make a driver tool that supports the inside ID of it as you drive it in. I tapped one in by hand carefully & it leaked so on my next one I am gonna source that tool
