They're going to introduce drug testing at our track this season. I didnt realise we even had a problem but they're introducing it anyway. How many of your tracks do this at comp meetings? Theyve been doing booze testing for a few years now, never caught any drivers but did get the occasional crew member, even the odd track crew failed that one, but I'm interested to what happens at other tracks around the globe.

Never heard of such a thing.
I don't know that it is a real problem , but I have seen some stunts that could merit a test or two.

I don't want to come on here and tell the truth, but I will let the USA in a little secret our northern neighbors have been up to for over a year now.......They legalized drugs up there!!! You can get cookies and brownies or almost any other food with it in it or almost any form of it!!!! I am 30 minutes from an entire country that does tons of drugs! Good luck in stopping the proliferation now....That carnival cruise ship is already underway...I smell it almost everywhere now where there is a crowd. Its fine if your retired and not driving.

The way I look at, people old enough to have a license have the responsibility.....You get into a crash and they test you and your positive, well........Liability is all on you....Here is the other problem....The current test won't tell them when you took said drugs, so when were you liable seems that might be a bit tricky too....Far as I know, unless your eyes are dilated, they do not know when you consumed the goods...Honestly, I would let the police deal with that one....

The little local tracks are the problem. They aren't equipped for, nor do they likely have the resources or desire to do any random testing. Most places have a-holes drinking beer all day while racing, and they may try to stop it, but don't even have the people to go looking. They have to rely on racers complaining, which may or may not happen.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

One of the U.S. legal rights on taking tests for illegal drugs or the use of alcohol while driving, flying, working or any other reason to test is protected unless the person asking(law enforcement, employer or a private citizen, has to have probable cause before acting .
Oregon made the use of Cannabis legal for recreational use, STUPID! down
One of the last drug training seminars I attended in 1996 brought up the length of alcohol, morphine, heroin and many other water soluble drugs affecting the human brain, which was 72 hours after the last consumption. work
THC remains in the fatty tissue in the human brain affecting it for up to six months after the last use shock One of the other points brought about THC is it will build up in your system and increase its affect on the brain the more you consume it, hence the name "Pot Head" work
Most mind affecting drugs are depressants that slow down your brains ability to think and reaction times, NOT GOOD down
I've seen several racers at the races park their rigs a long ways down wind from other racers and then later smelled the skunk weed in use near them years ago before weed was legal any where rant
The bright side of that was I could out drive them easier when they were under the influence than when they where sober shruggy

Well I dont see that smoking pot is going to be a performance enhancing advantage over any other racer, like Cab says, not good on the reactions. I've been to almost every meet at our local track for the past 30 years, i know who participate & who don't, I dont see any What The F type driving on our track from the regulars, only newbees giving themslves a crash course on racing. I thought it was kinda bizzare thing to do, but then maybe it happens elsewhere which is why i ask. So you can say it's not common practice in the US?

Off the menu until I retire. Even then I'd save it for after any high speed activities. boogie

You would be shocked to see who is smoking pot and winning. Don't ask me how or why but it seems to calm them down and put them in their ZONE. Trust me it works for them.

I've noticed it too. When certain racers are "zoned in" if you get a chance to look into their eyes you can tell they have something in their system. It has to calm them down. The worse thing you can do in bracket racing is think so it must help them not do that.

Federal law does not ban production, sale, use etc. of marijuana (which requires a Constitutional Amendment, see "Volstead Act"). It just regulates it, but as long as SCOTUS and the Atty. Gen. do whatever they want... it's illegal.

Wait for it: once the local DA and US Atty. know testing has been done, they just ask the rubber stamp (judge) for a warrant (the FBI just writes their own warrants), and hey, presto! you're indicted. As long as the original request is not done by or for LE, it's admissible as evidence.
Is there some way to get the track to agree to destroy the results after X length of time, etc? Yes, but how would you know, and the warrant is always possible.

The NHRA has done random testing for years at divisional and national events. BTW just because weed is legal where you happen to live does not mean it is acceptable to your employer or sanctioning body. One of the things that is being looked at is drugs such as Ritalin, it can improve focus and reaction. Just one of the many things they look for.

To answer the OP, I'm not aware of drug-testing at racetracks of any sort prior to competition.
But I'm not running at NHRA events, too amateur for that laugh2
Strongest drug policy is probably NASCAR, not sure how they implement it though.

It's never occurred to me to consume anything of the sort, even alcohol, before or during an event, even if I'm just spectating.
Just seems incompatible, and potentially lethal, in that environment.

I personally don't care for it at all, but I have no problem w/ someone smoking pot. Drinking alcohol excessively is way worse.

hell, the place i used to work for doesn't even test applicants for drugs anymore before hiring them. rant just seems they can't get any of the crowd to pass tests, so they just hire 'em. down

Wouldn't a more effective compromise and easier to accept, would be a policy anytime someone is involved in an incident, (yet to be defined) be mandatory drug tested, with appropriate ( to be determined) consequences? I know that is reactive rather then proactive, but I not sure there is a real definable problem to begin with, I think its hard to comprehend that some can actually drive while high, without, statistically, any issues, and others cannot. Those that exceed their buzz limits, stay home or more.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

Of course.

Yeah, remember when Allen Johnson got bounced for "a couple of cocktails" the night before?

I've never seen so much Coors Light consumed in one place as the pits of my local 1/8 mile track including one old duffer sipping on one before it was even 10 am as I was pulling my car up to get tech inspection. The staging lanes seem to be the only place alcohol is prohibited. It's like they've given up trying to figure out who is drinking in the pits. Too hard to ascertain who among the Coors Light drinkers will be racing later and who is crew/buddies I guess. Never caught a whiff of anything else in the pits though.
