2007, 3.8, auto, 145,000 miles. It's has done this albeit oh so slightly over the 2.5 yrs we've owned it. Around 35-45mph, depending on throttle pressure (light), I get this harmonic (not constant but on and off) vibration ( or shake ), while cruising, accelerating clears it up. I don't drive this van much except on maybe a weekend trip or church travel. Wife even mentioned it this weekend as we were traveling. It shifts wonderfully, and if I put it in "3", this usually clears it up.

I'm guessing torque convertor, but it otherwise is fine. No noises. I did notice at times cruising the tach will bounce 100 or so RPM's at some speeds. You can even hear the change in the exhaust note. Is there a relay or sensor that controls this? It only does this when the TC should be engaging. 35-45 or so

Thanks in advance

sounds like torque converter lock up shudder.
i don't know if a kit will solve this or not.
i'm guessing the fluid and filter hasn't been changed in a while ?

Fluid has been changed in the last 1.5 yrs.

Is there a switch that actuates it?

it's definitely an electrical lockup, but i would have to hit the books to see.
if mr kunkle or transman doesn't see this post and answer first.
i'll see what i can come up with. maybe a diagnostic tree.

Both the 41TE and 62TE are full electronic transmissions.

The solenoid pack controls the hydraulics within the trans.

Driving in 3 (if a 41TE) takes you out of overdrive, raises engine speed. But you still have lockup.

Lots of things can cause harmonics like you are going through. Could be converter, engine firing instability but not bad enough to cause misfire.

I would burn the tank of fuel you have and fill it up with 93 and drive it like you stole it for a bit. I’ve seen many cars clean themselves up this way. If that doesn’t fix it yiu’ll Have to dig deeper. Wouldn’t be a bad idea to start with plugs.

Might be worth checking tire/wheel assembly uniformity before tackling the transmission. An out-of-round assembly can cause some maddening harmonics that come and go with variations in speed. Most tire shops should have the necessary equipment to check road force, not just dynamic balance.

Ya know, I noticed the RF wheel looks like it's "off", enough that it's visible. I'll have it aligned and see what comes of it.

UPDATE:

Had an alignment done today, it really seemed to help in some respects, and some no. It still has that up and down with the tach.

Now, this "solenoid", is this internal or ??

41TE has an external solenoid pack. You will see it closest to the rad, an 8 way connector is attached at the top of the pack. If you are steady state throttle and seeing the tach rise and fall about 200 rpm on level ground that sounds like it’s going in and out of lockup.

that was my thought as well. is this accompanied by a "shudder" of sorts when this happens ?
what about any DTC's ?

i have been looking for a diagnostic tree to determine a converter clutch problem, but i haven't as of yet been able to find anything in the books i have.
any help in this area transman ?

So, easy answer is change that pack?

I had a 99 Caravan 3.8L. Had a minor side to side vibration at light acceleration. Tried axles and front wheel bearings, no change.

A set of motor mounts cured it.
