After checking out the Dukes you-tube post, there was one with scenes from 2 lane blacktop. Wilson is removing the slicks off the back of the 55 after a race, and you can clearly see that it has disc brakes on the rear axle. I thought that was pretty advanced for 1971! I always liked 55's. I also remember going to see it at the drive-in in my new(to me) 69 RR, same thing with Vanishing Point. When the show was over, lots of burning rubber out the exit!

And about a 10 leaf spring to boot. Nothing like 3/4 ton truck springs in your 55. whistling

Probably a necessity because of the spare tires/wheels, tool box, jack, etc. grin

I personally have always liked '55 Chevys and would own one in a minute if they weren't so expensive (kinda like buying most Mopars wink ).

Jay Leno had James Taylor on the show. Took him for a ride in the 55. I think it was the actual car but I cannot recall for certain.

Both the Hero Car and the ``Filming Car`` still exist. Both have been restored now, last I heard.
The third car was destroyed at the end of American Graffiti since it wasn`t destroyed during the filming of Two-Lane.

The car that was on Jay Leno's show, is the actual '55 that James Taylor drove in the movie..still has the camara mounts attached to it, to film interior shots, etc.
I have the DVD of the movie, and there is a whole section on one of the discs that explain what happened to the car(s) and who has owned them over the years.
Richard Ruth originally built the car for the movie. I believe he was in the movie in a short scene. He was the guy in the fred flinstone shirt, when they were at the gas station filling up with "high test"! He was talking to Dennis' character about the "famous panel truck" having a little bit of transmission trouble!

It was a legit 10 second car patterned after the cars Ruth was street-racing at the time. Producer Gary Kurtz (who went on to be a producer on Star Wars) spent time street racing with Ruth and then ordered the three cars from his shop.
