So we got a letter the mail saying that we are eligible for a FREE new toilet. My wife called and set up an appointment next month to have it done. The company is supposed to provide, install, and remove our old toilet all for no charge to us.

I took a look at the website and noticed it's not a secure site. Would that be anything to worry about as most every trusted site i have have seen always has the "https". This one does not.

Here is the link http://swe-inc.com/

Just looking for any heads up if this is some sort of scam or not?
Thank you
Stu

If it sounds too good to be true...

WHY would a company want to run around giving away free toilets & installation ?

Companies aren't in business to give stuff away free. You need to find out what's in it for them. Also, make sure it isn't one of those that hardly uses any water for each flush. If it is, you may end up with clogged drain pipes due to lack of sufficient flow to the sewer pipe in the street.

If you showed up at a stranges door and told them you were gonna give and install for them a new garage door for fee, no strings attached. how many out of 10 would actually let you step one foot further into there world? How many would show you out Eastwood style?

Id have nothing to do with the crap.

Standard installation includes removal of old toilet, professional installation of new toilet, new wax ring and new brass mounting hardware. Abnormal conditions are instances such as rotten or deteriorating flooring, carpet around the base of the toilet, angle stop valves that do not completely shut off and rotten or deteriorated toilet flanges, etc. Abnormal conditions may result in additional charges

Yes it is a low flow system and that was the reason they gave for replacing it along with all the faucets and shower heads in the home.

I keep thinking there is a catch but we do need a new commode and they swear it's free.

Our local water company sent us the info on this deal directing it to us by the way. I dont know but maybe the state gave them a grant or something? coffee

It would make sense that the water utility would pay for you to get rid of the crappy old crapper and install a new low flow one in California as part of a "green" ("brown"?) environmental program. I'm not saying the low flow toilet won't flush well, but you may want to consider adding a poop knife to your business center.

Maybe they just do the shell game and your 'new' toilet is your neighbor's old one?

Never, ever argue with an IDIOT. They will drag you to their level and then beat you with their years of experience

Yep. Just like power companies that will send you CFL/LED bulbs to reduce their load, so they can hold off on big investments in power infrastructure. Reducing load can be significantly cheaper than overbuilding to support the higher load.

I'm sure it's similar with water, that has to be pumped, sanitized, pumped some more, then dumped right down the drain.

Our low flow toilet works just fine.

If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

If you go to the actual site (Calwater) the toilet is FREE, the installation is NOT FREE......

IMHO keep the old crapper, or go out of State and purchase a 1.6 gallon with a pressure flush feature, otherwise you'll be using MORE water to flush that FREE "new water efficient" toilet to flush the bowl clean, or your drains will start clogging, esp if your waste pipe is 4" or larger
