Anyone have an old Direct Connection manual they would be willing to post, pm or email me the pages and illustrations of the leaf-link rear suspension? I remember the general layout, just don't remember if there were any specific details I don't remember. I know about Caltracs and Assasin bars, just like to be different ( or difficult) as my wife says!

The guys I know that have run the leaf-link have had problems bending the spring. That why the rod is on the bottom with the Caltracs setup. I know you want to be different but Caltracs is really the way to go.

My old man had tried it on his 63 Thunderbolt in the late 70s ......Yes I wish I had that car. ....I vaguely remember the car he sold it in 80 , it was always a hand full to drive....not because of power it just didn't track straight always wanted to go left, before and after the leaf link set up.
here's good thread that has some useful info

Just put a 4 link in the car, and start enjoying going to the track again.

You have to use a thicker main leaf spring - back in the day you had to use the 002/003 spring because it’s mainleaf was thicker than the SS springs. And you had to clamp the front segment at that.

There are better designs now.

FWIW, my heap uses an old Morrison 4-link, with the stock leaf springs. I floated the housing via an aluminum bushing that allows the housing to rotate freely. The bushing is a two-piece that I designed and machined myself. The leafs hold the car up, and the four-link seems to work.

Yep I can testify that is correct, I had a leaf link set up on a 66 cuda, and I bent the spring, when the spring bent it allowed the slick to rub the front of the fender, ruined the tire, and was lucky it did not wreck the car.

So how come no one recommends a 3 link for street cars?
I know they are a bit more involved in set up and installation, but they are supposed to be way better than a 4 for going around corners

This forum is mostly for straight line racing. In the cornering forum, the impression that I've gotten is that the cost and set up isn't a benefit until you have a dedicated race car, and then class limitations come into play. If I had unlimited (or a much higher limit) funds, I'd go IRS and get rid of the live axle. twocents
