Cool video, thanks for posting. I for one would LOVE a ride in one.

But Im guessing the gentleman shown IS NOT the pilot.
he's breathing way to heavy and looks tense.
Some F16s have a back seat for training purposes.

I get to see the 162nd ANG fly these birds every day.

I spent most of the time watching the control surfaces. smile

He is obviously the pilot - look in his visor reflection, you can see the HUD and control movements, the way he anticipates the next maneuver, he's no passenger
Some of the toughest flying you can do, so yeah you are tense and breathing heavy doing these demos

Yes, the back seat looked empty to me.

Have you ever noticed how heavy Top Fuel and Funny Car drivers are breathing before and after a run? Strap your butt in something that fast and I think everyone breaths heavy.

..that's normal for the exertion of flying like this, it takes a lot of effort and you tend to react to the G's by squinching your muscles too..

Nice HD quality - Love looking at details, like the way the leading edge deflects to provide lift in the tight turns..

Cool,
The 1st time I watched it , it looked like his arm and/or body movement was AFTER the plane started its moves which led me to believe he was passenger.
These guys are cool as heck to watch and listen to during the day. But if your trying to have a conversation, its impossible due to the noise. These bad boys are LOUD when they take off or do a fly by. Its usually anywhere from 2 to as many as 6 going by one right after the other .
Ive never seen just one go out by itself.

On a side note , I live south east of the airport. Whats really cool is once a month these boys do night flights and to watch/ hear them over head in a clear but pitch black sky is REALLY cool. Sometimes flying REALLY low

Davis Monathon airbase base isn't to far from us either. So we get to see all kinds of bad ass fly boys on a regular basis. From the A10 to B17s doing maneuvers . Even the occasional F35 ( but they're rare around here )

on a side note ;

I got to talk to a few of the ground crew guys a while back. So I asked what it takes to get a ride, his reply was LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of paperwork.
Took these a just a few days ago, we were close, REALLY close.
PS, they whistle when the go by you. Doesn't matter if in the air ( at any speed ) or just rolling along on the taxi way .

The pilot was was apparently to me breathing intentionally deep and hard prior to takeoff, interesting how he was doing neck stretching at same time which became obvious why after take off.

What altitude are they pressurized to or breathing at, ie is the air thinned?

Are the controls surfaces controlled directly by pilot, or does he just drive by wire and a computer figures out what to move and when?

Interesting how the sound changes as contrails form and disappear from localized? turbulence.

I only watched 6? mins, will go back and finish. up

I just came back to this video to show my 9-year-old... we are playing a lot of FlightSim lately.

The loudest noise I ever experienced was from 2 Illinois Air National Guard F-16's taking off from Springfield, IL airport. It's kinda small place, and I was in a lounge with some old steel single-pane windows when they lined up for take-off. So I watched their take-off roll, and they went into afterburner abeam the building, and OMFG... You didn't hear the noise so much as felt the shockwaves ripple through your body. Amazing power.

There is so much to love about aviation.

Loudest one I heard during my active duty years was the B-1 at low altitude. Bone runs the same basic engine design as the F-16, but with four of them instead of one.

I grew up in a town that had a naval air station in it, and watched planes there until it closed in ‘95. Watching some of the fighters take off and land ranks up there with the coolest things I’ve ever seen and heard in my life.
There weren’t any jets based there for many years, so all that I saw were transients coming in typically to visit friends and family, or to perform at a show in the area.
As such, they often showed off a bit when leaving. My favorite were F14s, they would get airborne then level off 10 or 20 feet above the runway until they got to the end, yank it vertical, and you would watch until you could no longer see the twin afterburners, but you could still hear it. On a few occasions, a plane went all the way to the fence before pulling it up, and the wake kicked up gravel from the periphery road and damaged cars!
I took thousands of pictures of F4s, F14s, F15s, F16s, and even had an F117 there onetime, a B1 another, and several years a B52 staging there for an air show.
Someday I need to scan my 35 mm pictures and slides. We could get up to a fence next to a taxiway by the end of the runway and get great pictures. I sure miss Glenview Naval air station!

Spent six weeks at Gowan Field in Boise back in the mid 80s. There was a squadron of RF4s based there. Nothing like two F4s taking off on afterburner at 0600.

I had the opportunity to get a check ride in an F111. HS bud was a LTC stationed at Mountain Home. We had touched base a year before. He told me that if I was ever in the area to give him a call in advance he would arrange a ride. Well, I had orders to attend my advance course at Ft Knox. I contacted him and gave me a date to be there. Since I was driving it was easy to take a few extra days on the road. Anyway, a week before I was to leave I got a call from him. Unfortunately, his unit was on alert and were heading to Saudi. Desert Shield. Anyway, that didn’t work out. A few months after Desert Storm we talked. He told some harrowing stories of bustin ass across the desert, on after burners, 500 feet on the deck rolling in on Iraqi airfields. Must of been a rush.

He’s retired as a full bird, I retired and moved on. We still keep in touch.

You think that was loud you should have been here when we had the F4 Phantom's based here especially during the Vietnam war. They would take off 4 at a time and were always breaking the sound barrier. If you've never heard and felt that you'd swear a bomb just exploded.

No passengers in an F16A model! That doesn't look like a "B" model (two seats) That's the pilot you're watching there!

I can only imagine, with the twin engines of four F-4's!! - Springfield was a cool airport, BTW. Nice and casual, real friendly people, and this was after 9/11 and all that. IIRC there are some vintage WW2 aircraft based there.

Loudest thing I heard was a U-2 taking off out of Howard AFB. Second runner up EA-6B at full throttle after catching a wire during landing.
