I think that this is important info that should be shared here so I'll try again. If this is not an appropriate way, please let me know how to properly share this.

Stopping Aftermarket Defeat Devices for Vehicles and Engines – This NCI will focus on stopping the manufacture, sale, and installation of aftermarket defeat devices on vehicles and engines used on public roads as well as on nonroad vehicles and engines. Illegally-modified vehicles and engines contribute substantial excess pollution that harms public health and impedes efforts by the EPA, tribes, states and local agencies to plan for and attain air quality standards.

What ever happened to the RPM Act? Seems it's out there in congressional limbo. They delegate their authority to these faceless alphabet agencies, allow them to make their own rules, regulations and penalties with little recourse for those affected. Then act like it's a major problem to take back any authority over these issues. Invent a crisis, claim the sky is falling, create a solution to justify their existence, budget and authority. Rinse and repeat.

SEMA will have to step up, spend time and resources that could be better used for other things and try to deal with this politically.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Your highlighted statement above is so IMO, intentionally vague and broad, one could drive a Supertanker thru it, which I suspect is intended to give the "crisis" maximum enforcement longevity..
For example using ANY non OEM tire size on an emission controlled vehicle could alter its emissions and be illegal..

I think many of us thought wrongly, of expecting recently a course correction on matters like this, but it seems that attention was more directed at other wealthier prospects, rather then us hot rod hobbyists..

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

personally a little tired of these clowns that think rolling coal is cool------seen some lay down a black fogbank covering a 6 lane highway-----time for the police to impound them---run them on an emission machine--then if altered crush them------getting tired of these raucous loud harleys as well------give them a decibel limit-----exceed it by alteration--impound--crush......and dont give me a lame story the loud pipes saved your life--you probably wear ear plugs and a helmet-----ever see a police or ambulance siren ineffective due to speed?

I have no idea what that language means so I'm not spending any time worrying about it. Most older cars are exempt from this stuff since they didn't have emission controls on them from the factory. I suppose the EPA could say that new cars cannot be modified in any way even for off road use but they would have a hard time selling that. The combined emissions from all the new cars modified for drag racing wouldn't amount to one day of traffic in LA.

Whoever wrote that statement had something in mind that they are going to put pressure on but they didn't exactly make it clear what their intentions are. I'll wait until I see something more concrete before I pay attention.

I could see the off road being farm equipment.
They have choked these engines so bad that you now have to buy the next size larger machine than you had just to do the same job. Guys were ordering the same size combine and found out it had no power. Several places make black boxes to change the fuel timing. I am not sure how much that effects the emissions.

One huge problem that is going to happen is used semi trucks with emission equipment problems. They are a never ending problem and parts are really expensive. You cant put $2000 of parts on a 10 year old truck every 6 months.

Making a device that alters operating parameters and increases emissions is just facilitating a crime. It's not enough to label something "for off-road use only" and say it's the users responsibility. One tune for emissions testing and another for daily use? How is that different from that BS Volkswagen pulled that resulted in a multi-billion dollar settlement? No sympathy here, but my toys are old enough there's no testing at all anymore and I can do what I want.

Sledge hammer for a gnat. Modified vehicles are such a small target, it is ridiculous to even contemplate spending the resources to make criminals out of regular guys. There are so many much, much larger sources to consider. And comparing an automobile manufacturers scale of deception to individual's modifications is just as ridiculous. We have no emission testing here, so there is actually no deception at all.

What the EPA is attempting to do is completely new and totally unwarranted. Your air or water will not be one bit better with this new prohibition. But consider the number of jobs that could be destroyed. An entire industry, an American industry at that, could be severely damaged.

Total regulatory overreach.

That's the rule here, no testing for vehicles 1974 and older. Vehicles rarely seen on the road, relatively speaking.

That’s the rule where I live also. My point is you’re contradicting yourself. You are using a loophole to do what has been deemed illegal. Just because you haven’t been investigated doesn’t mean you are any less guilty than any of your examples (which you seem to be disgusted with.) Why are you OK with your actions?
