I tried to post this last night before my computer, ISP, locked up after typing on it for over 30 minutes and loosing it all, that went just like my weekend whiney
I left early Friday morning with a planned stop in Klamath Falls to buy some NP 833 parts from a tranny shop down there, I forgot to bring my driving instruction sheet with the shop phone number on it, I have a old flip phone so no help on getting driving directions from it. I tried to find it from my memory but missed it so Iended up having to call my wife for help and finally found the shop 1/2 hour later, loaded up the parts and headed out of the parking lot next door and ran over something big I didn't see that crunch the right front wheel and tire on the car trailer realcrazy
I had to drive about five miles before I could pull over to look at it and then drive another five miles to get to a place I could safely change it.
Drove onto Sacramento with nothing bad happening until about 20 miles north of Sacramento to run into stop and go traffic jam north of the airport which went on for about 15 miles, lost around 40 minutes in that to have it happen again when I got into north Sacramento due to the Friday afternoon traffic rush rant Finally got off the freeways to end up getting lost due to missing a street sign I needed to turn east on, another 30 minutes lost stopping twice to get directions and finding the track rant
$50.00 fee for a 4 hour test and tune shock It was almost dark so I ended up not unloading the car but I did leave the trailer with the car in it and ended up getting to the hotel around 9:30 PM and checked in, while I was doing that that a tour bus pull in with around 50 non English speaking tourist from Asia, not sure which country, maybe Japan which filled the lobby up bad enough to make it really hard to get from my truck with my luggage up to my room on the second floor shruggy Not a good start whistling
I went to the track Saturday morning well before the gates open to find out that I had park my trailer in a car show arena so strike two, moved it and got it in line for tech before they started time trails but I had to argue with the track owner wanting to charge anyone who was running time only(fun run, no class for electronic cars) another $50.00 above the pre entry fee of $40.00 shruggy
I have had issues with this car this year having ignition issues that will make it kick back against the starter and back fire through the carb, now and then, not all the time. I had change the distributor thinking that was it and that seemed to fix it until I was ready to start it in the staging lanes, car ran over a second slow and 10 MPH slow, didn't leave worth a hoot and so on. Had trouble getting it started on the return road so I decided to check the timing again in the pits and ended up having the 12 V lead from the timing light ground out against the hot wire to the battery in the trunk after I got it started , it smoked that wire all the way back to the battery cut off switch ending my day, strike three rant I tried starting it after disconnecting that burnt up wire but no luck down
I did get to meet and talk to several members on here, Keith Richards, Shiloh and several others members on here that I'm not able to remember there names now blush
I needed to turn my truck and trailer around so I could use the winch to load the car but some street racer had decided to park his new Challenger in my pit space blocking my car after I had walked up to talk to Shilow several pit space away from mine in the same row which ended adding some more frustrations to my great weekend of racing whistling
The only good thing that came out of the trials and tribulation is I remember that if I don't have some bad times now and then I forget to enjoy the good times, man am I ready for them grin
I think my ignition problem may be related to me running the charging wire next to the magnetic pick up wires from the distributor in the cockpit, I will reroute the new charging wire far away from them this time luck
One more race schedule locally next weekend of so I'm hoping to have it I fixed and run a new best in the 1/8 mile, 5.50 hopefully at or above 120 MPH luck
RANT OFF grin
I'll update off the last post on here scope

Your trip sound reminiscent of my trip to race Redding a few years back, I swear everything that could go south DID! But at the end of the day the good seems to overturn the bad and I am blessed to play with the toys that I do.
Good talking to you there, after my second time run I was thinking I would come over and check out your car and see if anything we could do but you were gone, hope you had a safe one home. I myself was surprised $30 at the gate and then $10 for a fun run card so had $$$ left over for an event shirt. If the track is still open next year and still have this car I plan on having the box set up easily removable. Wish I had got the number on that two tone blue "69 road runner in the swap area as that is set up close to what I would like to get back into similar to my '68 road runner I sold 6 -7 years back, thinking of selling my car and building a low 10 second street - strip B body.
Hope to see you at the next one Cab!

Times like those, we used to just yell "drag racing sucks!" and then start laughing.
Sounds like a few days of one irritation after another, but you brought the thing home with the rods still in it, right?
(I've had to remind myself of the glass being half-full a few times)

One question: what kind of moron blocks a racecar or a pit stall?
(No need to answer)

Sacramento is FAMOUS for azzhats parking in pit spaces of racers...... that’s why I head out into the grass!

Been a few years since I’ve made the 9hr trek up there.

It is a fact that we learn from our trials. If life was perfect we would not need God. He puts us through trials so we will learn from them. Some are very harsh, but needed.

Seems t me that used to have a lot of goatheads in the grass. That was years ago though.

Cab, are your pickup wires shielded and grounded? MSD PICKUP WIRES now come with a shield that has a ground lead.

8..603 156 mph best, 2905 lbs 549, indy 572-13, alky

Probably not as all the MSD parts I have are old work
The distributor pickup harness is one of the older ones(15+Yrs) it is twisted inside a sheath but I'm almost sure their is no metallic shielding in that sheath confused I'll try to do a ohm test on the sheath and see if it conducts or not up
This car had a MSD 44 amp mag in it before I got it, I added the MSD7AL2, wiring and coil.
I have a roll of 2 wire with a grounded sheath covering shielded wires some where around here whistling, I'll check the one on the car and go from there wrench
Thanks for the heads up on that up bow

I don't know how to post pictures on here now, yet realcrazy whiney
The car is a 1970 S/P Cuda chrome moly tube chassis car that weighs right at 2750Lbs with me in it ready to race, best ET so far is 8.862 at 150. MPH.
I've been fighting this intermittent tuning issue for way to long, time to fix it and get on making the car faster wrench
I did a little testing on the car this afternoon and no spark from the coil, no voltage to the MSD 12V lead now work
I thought the last race of the year at the local track was the weekend after next, it is this weekend so it's time to get my rear in gear and fix this monster wrench hammer
More tomorrow up

I melted two holes in the high pressure lines to the Shiftnoid throttle stop, which drained the CO2 bottle, and blew the 30 amp fuse for the ignition, the fuse did its job protecting the rest of the ignition wiring boogie up
I'm waiting for a 25 Ft roll of 10 gauge wire and a new 100 amp Powermatser alternator do to be delivered tomorrow luck
Hopefully back in the saddle this weekend

UPDATE, I found 3 problems with my S/P car today while rewiring the alternator and rerouting MSD7AL2 coil and distributor pick up harnesses.
First was when I installed the MSD7AL2 and coil I had ran the distributor mag pickup wires under the intake and the coil wires on the frame but I had tyrapped them together on the inside floor back to the MSD box for about 30 inches realcrazy I did use a grounded sheath cable for the distributor pick up wires and had it grounded near the MSD box up They are now separated by 18 inches or so all the way from the distributor to the box, same thing on the coil wire and alternator feed wire up luck
Second thing was that when I swapped the old and new motor last winter I evidently didn't tighten the mid plate to the frame bracket bolts where the #0 ground wire from the chassis to the engine is attached rant
Third thing was it was still kicking back on the starter due to the timing being set over 45 degrees confused I had set it at 35 degrees before loading the car to go to Sacramento last Thursday work
Me thinks this car hates me and is messing with me all the time, I will work on it and beat on it until it does what I want hammer wrench grin
I'll post on how it goes tomorrow evening when I get back from the track luck

Another issue with the front motor plate and stock type distributor, it won't allow the stock distributor cap hold downs to work properly shock rant
I'll change the distributor again in the morning at the track and hope I can make it fit and work properly luck

Can you turn the dist and relocate the plug wires so the clips will clear the motor plate?

Or re-contour the motor plate...

If I can't make a low deck distributor work I'll put in a RB distributor next up grin I've move the oil pump drive gear and shaft several times already trying to make a low deck distributor work properly whiney This motor has a set of Indy 440-1 heads on it also so the distributor movement is limited both ways whiney
I have one spacer and hold down for the RB application boogie
