I seem to recall that original wheel studs were painted RED for LH threads and GREEN for RH. Does anyone have a color recommendation for the green? Mine almost look like they were Mopar turquoise engine blue, but there wasn’t much left to sample.

My 69 RR had copper colored ones for lefthand.

I’ve seen copper plated LH as well.

You're going for authenticity but you paint the axle shaft hubs black?

They had a thin coat of black paint on them.

Threads should never be painted.

You may be right. I went with pretty much a dusting on the threads. My original studs show paint on the tips as well, so I doubt the threads were masked during the manufacturing process. Pics were taken after cleaning, including evaporust.

How do you determine if the thin coat of black paint on the axle end was done by a previous owner, a repair shop, or the factory?

Here's a couple of LH studs that are copper plated and have trace of blue/green paint.

In my stash I have about ten 8 3/4" axles and not a one shows any trace of black paint on the hub.
