So is red LOL smile

Okay, I'll play along with that.
Before the Charger, I had never owned a red car. MY '84 Chevy truck was red but all of my cars then and prior were other colors. I wanted red for this car.
After the paint, after the build, I started seeing RED on many other cars. For awhile in 2015, I considered a color change to B-5 Blue. Yeah...I considered stripping the car down and changing the color entirely. I still ,love the blue.
To make nice with the crowd, I'll concede that those that already have the satin paint are exempt from my opinions...They chose their colors when the trend was on the upswing.
Bell Bottoms and tye dye was really cool at one time and in some cases still is BUT I respect the pioneers more than the guys that jump on a trend too late.
Oh, just to annoy John...Destroyer Gray ?? I see these cars in that color and just cannot see the appeal. It looks like clearcoat over gray primer. Is this a Military sort of thing? You guys see the cars in the gray and reminisce about time in the service? If so, I respect the service but gag at the color!
Your car, your choice but jeez....

Well in my case it would of been OD green. I consider myself annoyed grin

Yes this is exactly what I meant. I guess had my image shown up in the post rather than a link....

I'm all for satin black (not flat) for hood and stripe treatment, as far as looks go, but I'm just worried about the care. I've heard this finish is hell when it comes to bird crap on it...like get it off NOW. But I'm also wondering about waxing/cleaning. Obviously you have to avoid the old paste wax, that obviously is just swirl-cloud-city. Meguiars told me to use one of the spray wipe on waxes that lasts only about 2-3 weeks on satin finish. Is that all there is to it? And traditional sponges for washing, well since you can't repair light swirl marks in satin like a regular gloss clear coat, microfiber cloths then? Do they make a satin clear coat for these paints?

Answers to those questions are what I was after, not if satin is cool or passe. Since so many Mopars came with these flat or satin combo finishes...how to you take care of it above a solid gloss painted car?

One last thing, what type of paint(s) are most popular for the satin black? I've been hearing a few commenting on "hot rod black".

Thanks!

Flat and semi-gloss cars are a sign of laziness.

Would have to agree with you on that one. I just flat blacked my Savoy. Flat black and just the chrome trim is shiny. Not because lazy. But because it is a hot rod and I work on it and do not want to cry and pout over it if I nick the paint or get a scratch in it. Fine for a show car for which it is not and it never will be. Just a fast fun street car.

I bought the paint to black one out, well I just am not sure so now its with about 30 gallons of other paint indecision on my back porch.

I think alot of it is black primered POS-s were the norm for so long and now when someone does it to a nice car the POS stigma is still there weather true or not.

Yeah, I have seen plenty of crapped out cars in black primer, gray primer and years ago....Red oxide ! I haven't seen the red in awhile though.
FOr the record, I am not a purist. Modifications are not a problem, I just see a matte or flat finish as a short cut. I don't like the matte finish wraps some people do to their cars. Seeing a $200,000 Euro-exotic car with a dull finish wrap looks crappy to me. In basic terms, a shine means quality, dull means a degraded finish.
This is my opinion, I'm not trying to insult anyone's car.

I'm going to paint my crew cab olive drab because I'm too lazy to strip off all the bedliner it's already coated with. laugh2
I stripped the grille and what a mess and PITA that was, don't want to go through that again and for a bomb around in the mountains truck anyway a nice paint job would be a waste.
Can't help with the cleaning ideas though. I'll just use soap and water if I wash it at all.

In the world of motorcycles I prefer a nice glossy paint job done professionally. The bikes in dull black remind me of when I was 16 and had no damn money do to my stuff up better.

Keep old mopars alive.
