This is a bowling alley that does a cruise-in every Weds night. No admission. Bring your toy. Live band(very good local bands) $10 bucket of 4 16oz beer.$5 foot long dogs or brat or pulled pork all served w/chips and pickle. Come when you want/leave when you want. You guys want to put a car show together, this is how you do it. 300+ cars tonight and they were still rolling in. Crazy fun night. Tons of really cool stuff! That Super Bee down in the corner is FI/COP 6 pack stroker BB...very cool!!

Great idea...but who is paying the band to play and what about the food vendors? Is the bowling alley owner fronting all this? shruggy

Kinda like the best Cars & Coffee deals: just bring your stuff, hang out with other car people, swap stories.
If a vendor shows up, they'll sell to the crowd.
Main thing is that people behave responsibly and are friendly to everyone they encounter.
Two great ways to cultivate appreciation and grow the hobby.
There's a purity in a random gathering like that, been thinking about doing something similar in my area.

We had a similar cruise night at a local bowling alley called Continental Lanes here for over 20 years on Friday nights. Best cruise night in the area IMO. Sadly, the owner sold out to L.A. Fitness and the cruise is no more. I really miss it. frown

We actually have a number of cruises of similar quality in this area. Tired as I am of the problems here with rising taxes and stagnant real estate prices, the fair weather month's cruise scene in the Chicago area I will really miss when I finally flee this state.
Many towns sponsor cruises here and live bands are often part of the event. Tomorrow I'm planning to go to Downers Grove for their Friday night event where on a good night 200+ cars line the downtown streets and fill several parking lots. They have a band at the train station at the north end of the cruise. And they have a feature every week where one street is reserved for that weeks feature cars, must be 25 years or older. Tomorrow is convertible night and I hope to have my Challenger there!
Saturday I will either hit the last of 2019 Lombard or the one in my neighborhood of Mt Prospect. Lombard is also along the downtown area along the main street and in the parking lots along that road and gets 200+ cars also. One dead end street they block off and put up a stage with a live band. For the last one this week, they block off the main drag and put up a larger stage where the popular Beatles cover band American English will perform. Sadly that removes 25-30% of cruise parking for the last night of the season.
Mt Prospect has room in a train station lot for 175 cars and on good nights fills up early, so too bad their isn't more spaces. Many evenings they have a live band, but even if they don't, they have a DJ. Also a radio station often sets up a remote with games etc.
Monday nights through Labor Day, the west side of the Old Orchard Shopping mall is home to the Skokie car show, 300-500 cars, raffle, live band and food trucks.
There are a number of other similar cruises in the area, but those 4 are ones I frequent. I've been working a lot this year, plus bad weather, has kept me from getting to Skokie, but the others I have made to many times this year. But I know retirees and people with a lot of free time who attend area cruises 6-7 nights a week over the summer.
Many of the albums in my Flickr account are highlights of our local cruise scene

Local businesses take turns sponsoring nights to help pay for the bands. Most are auto related. Last night was sponsored by a local body shop that does regular and restoration work. Food and beverages are sold by the bowling alley. There were lines all night.....trust me, they made money last night!! It's been so successful this year they're going to stretch it a couple extra weeks...weather permitting.

the local harly shop in the next town over [18miles from coder] has a very nice cruise the last friday night of the month from may to september.
it is only from 6-8pm, but it starts filling up around 4. we always get there early for a good spot.
live band as well, and brings in around 150 cars and several hundred bikes.
we have a great time going !

We have two of that style in my area, a very good time. Informal, laid back. Wednesdays at the Eagle's club and Friday nights at a bowling alley.

Well that's good to hear, hope it stays strong and grows! 6PAX...I remember the Continental Lanes cruise nights, been to a few myself there, back in the day! Too bad it's gone now. Where I live, (small rural farm town) there are no cruise night spots anywhere around here within 50 miles one way...it SUCKS!!! mad

The few in this area are pathetic, and full of newer Phords and Chebbies.

Facts are stubborn things.

We have one near here (south of York, PA) that takes place at the Markets at Shrewsbury the 4th friday of the month April-Oct. It's organized by a local Hot Rod club... and has been going on for years. They have a DJ and awards... They collect $1 as you come in primarily as a car count and to put towards prizes. Not sure how big it is, but they get several hundred cars each time. And the Market gets at least 5 times the business it normally does.... a win all around. Pics below show about 3/4 of the area... some towards the outside edges on both sides up on the hill are not in frame.

I enjoy seeing these cruise ins from around the world! Here on long island there are hangs every night of the week with so many choices of which to attend and car shows every weekend. There is alot of catch up being done to make up for the severe heat and rainout.

Love seeing all the cruise-in pics. I really think that's the way car shows are going. I did do a "car show" deal today. Local Lions Club does a show every year. I have heard about it for a while but have never gone there. I'll do it again next year.....nice park, band..etc. 1000+ cars today.
