Yes, my weight and couple other factors preclude the anterior being used on me. That said, longer healing process the way I am having it done, but by about 6/8 weeks the 2 methods meet regards outcome going forward.
Kinda gruesome to think about.... lol.... but the way I am having it done allows the surgeon much better look at what he is doing

Best wishes on a speedy recovery! You're almost to your surgery day and I'm certain the thinking about it will be the worst part. Hang in there, you're almost there!!

P.S.

The topic reminds me of a very old joke; it's back from when Vanilla Ice and Bo Jackson were popular. "What do Bo Jackson and Vanilla Ice have in common? Artificial Hip". laugh

Good Luck Man
My wife had both hers done (interior) at the same time.
Was up walking the same day.
Back at work on her feet in less than 4 weeks.

Same as others have stated, life changer, so much less pain.

Matt

Be careful of the material chosen for the unit. I watched a show on Netflix about medical boo boo's, mostly covered chick stuff, but there was one about a doc in Alaska. The doc, who is an avid bicyclist, had one done and within a year he had some serious body and neurological issues going on. Turned out it was caused by the hospital using a cobalt unit. Cobalt is very hard and a toxic metal. He found that his own patients were having issues too if the unit was cobalt.

If you're still awake when you get in the operating room like I was don't make the mistake of looking at them getting the tools ready in the back of the room! It looked like something you would see in a body shop.

My wife is two months out from her left hip replacement and six months out from her right. Had a little setback from the left, but for the first time in three years she is walking without any aids (started with a cane, then to a wheelchair, then to a walker. No long walks yet, but she did go up and down the stairs at our son's old house and new house many times this past weekend helping them move. She had to find a different doctor who would do hers because the first said she was too young and too heavy. Second doctor said otherwise...

Late tomorrow afternoon will be a week since i got out of the recovery room
Ended up being being 4.5 hour procedure. Lots of scar tissue and bone spurs.
Still having to be helped out of the easy chair i sit in( low, and don't yet have the strength to raise myself up enough) i can get off the bed because it sits higher
Lost a lot of blood during surgery, was told it will take some time to get that back.
Walking with walker3/4 times a day. Keeps getting a little better each and every day. My goal is go be able to get out of my chair by the end of this week, just need a cane the following week

the "DON'T OVER DO IT" mantra is worth repeating ! bad things can come from that. however, don't just sit around in the easy chair all day either.
glad you are doing good after the surgery ! up i'm rooting for ya ! [as i believe we all are.]

Had my right hip replaced in April @ Cedars/Sinai LA, done the anterior(front) way less cutting of muscle/nerves.
On walker for week 1, driving on week 2, no walker/cane. In 4 weeks returned to my sports including bowling. My hip had a lot of arthritis and misformed from birth.
My orthopedist does a lot of joint replacements, knee & hips. Highly recommended but find & confirm a good orthopedist...

Just my $0.02... wink

Sounds like things are progressing nicely, I'm sure the physician and therapist have instructed you in the positions to avoid. Through my 36 years of being a physical therapists and working primarily with orthopedics I have unfortunately worked on some total hip patients that suffered some dislocations. Almost every one of them dislocated their hips when working in the backyard reaching down to pick up the last twig or sack of leaves and twisted away from the involved hip. This caused dislocation and sometimes a frustrating and long rehab process. So the thing to remember is once you are healed and get the clearance to bend forward to pick something up off the floor either to go straight down in front preferably bending your knees or if you have to twist or turn make sure you turn towards your new hip. Don't turn away. Good luck if you have any questions feel free to PM me.... Ray

I wish my doctors had told me to do that as it was ugly a few days after the surgery at least in my case.

Good luck and wish you a speedy recover!!

If you think your taking enough laxatives and stool softeners.....YOU ARE NOT. I though I was a pro with all my back surgeries but a recent quad tendon surgery and I compacted. The ..ahem enema at the ER was unpleasant and embarrassing. But the staff was caring and professional and I felt better.
B3422W5 Glad your recovering well. Just remain positive and take it slow.

I had mine replaced anterior after an arthroscopic procedure for torn cartilage. They were within a year of each other and I think that has caused some problems. A year after the hip the Dr cut my tendon on the inner part of my leg due to it being so tight. I think part of my problem is scar tissure but something doesnt act right. Had a PRP shot a month ago to try and get swelling out of a tendon near the incision. I think my Dr is doing mostly anteriors but I may have been a candidate for posterior. 3 surgeries in 2 years is enough but seeing another surgeon in a week to see his opinion. Hope you get along good and heal up. I am 52 and had extra bone around the socket that eventually tore the cartilage. Other leg the same way so trying to take care of it. I had seen 7 chiropractors in my life before this and none of them caught this as causing my lower back issues. When they would twist me it was probably causing damage. Good luck and take it easy!

Had both of mine replaced in 2012 (about 5 months apart) and had issues with constipation from the pain meds too. My Physical Therapist suggested something and it worked very well for me. She said to to pour a 50/50 mix of apple juice and prune juice into a pan and heat it till hot (don't scorch it!) then let it cool and refrigerate it. I drank 2 to 3 glasses of that each day and it worked surprisingly well. Not saying it'll work for every one but it's worth a shot plus I kind of liked it. We jokingly called it "Witches Brew" You'll have to experiment with how much to drink for your needs. Also my hip replacements was one of the best things I've done for myself. Now if everything else was in as good of shape as my hips... grin
