After quite a few years I’m hoping to fire the 451 in my Demon again on Sunday. The car has a new aluminum radiator, water pump housing and a Meizerre water pump, are the new “dex-cool” style antifreezes ok to run with this stuff or should I be using something else?

Also I’m curious about the plug gap. It has iron heads, msd 6al, msd pro billet distributor and a msd blaster SS coil

I would leave the DexCool alone. It doesn't have a real good reputation.

MSD recommends .035 gap. Start there and adjust to suit your application

Dex Cool is a GM specific coolant that doesn't tolerate low levels, any sort of cavitation causes it to sludge up badly. Zerex g05 is a very good antifreeze for corrosion resistance in a motor with a mix of CI and Alum components. If you are running on a track, water and water wetter is probably best. twocents

Thanks, I appreciate the help. When I asked about "dex-cool" I meant the newer vehicle antifreezes not dex-cool specifically. Again I appreciate all the help guys.

I have good luck with just water and some kind of additive like red line water wetter or purple ice from royal purple. I drain a little out and put some regular old green anti freeze in for the winter.

I use a Ice Ignition and they too recommend .035" plug gap to start. I use the Evans waterless coolant. Boiling point 375*. You'll never boil over. Expensive, but nice stuff.

No worries, there are many different modern anti freeze formulations, and no universal formula. I'm glad I'm not working in the general repair field anymore.
