Need to pick up some intake bolts for a 360. Leaning towards grade 5 bolts. Isn't grade 8 overkill for an intake manifold? Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Originals were grade 5.1.

No strain on the intake so no need for grade 8.

If my memory is correct I believe both the BB and early(pre magnum motors)SB use 3/8 intake bolts that FSM called for 35 Ft. Lb. torque on both so grade 5 will work well in my opinion up wrench

Thanks guys. The reason I ask is that I was looking at some aftermarket intake bolt sets that said they were grade 8 and they wanted an arm and a leg for them. I can get 12 grade 5, 1 1/4 inch 3/8-16 bolts for 50 cents a piece. Hey, I'm cheap!

Grade 5 for sure. Cast iron and aluminum can’t handle grade 8 torques.

Notes
These specs are for stock-type bolts with light engine oil applied to the threads and the underside of the bolt head. Moly and other lubes offer reduced friction and increased bolt tension, which will affect the torque figure. If you use aftermarket performance bolts like ARP's, you should follow the recommended torque specifications.
Please note that some specifications are in inch-pounds, rather than foot-pounds. Read the chart carefully to prevent broken bolts due to excessive torque.

I'm with these guys all the way...grade 5. There's no need for grade 8 on an intake and Heaven forbid you break a bolt, grade 8's are a PIA to get out

I've used stainless allen heads which are probably below a grade 5 on aluminum intakes to make tightening easier and they don't rust

no need for expensive bolts for intake. The don't require a bunch on torque.
