This. We relocated to Bowling Green KY a few years ago from Mich. You shouldn’t have any problem finding construction related work in southern KY/northern TN. This whole area is booming, but there’s plenty of country living if that’s what you want too.

I live in Tulsa, OK which is certainly not a bad place to live and we have one of the best racing surfaces in the country at our drag strip.

I was in Bowling Green a few years back for Drag Week and I was impressed. Seemed like a bigger town than it was and the drag strip there is awesome.

One thing to consider is locating to a place with a little long term commitment as possible i.e. no year long lease, deposits, etc.
Approaching a major re-boot should be done with eyes wide open.
I mentioned the fire area rebuilding. I'm sure there are other areas in need of skilled tradesmen that have damage or repair incurred shortage of workers. Some employers may even be providing lodging, and/or per diem. If I had few commitments and looking at a unknown destination I truly would pursue that avenue.

You didn't give us a lot to go on other than your work experience. Any preference on climate, terrain, city of rural, etc...??? If I were making that move I'd be paying attention to taxation and cost of living as a big part of making that decision.

Don't come to New York! Upstate is nice but the taxes are ridiculous down here in Westchester. You can make a lot of money but they steal it back in taxes and real estate prices.

Same thing happens in the CA Bay Area. I can make almost $56 per hour in construction but then pay over $550 a week in taxes.

I think you need a lot more than that if you are looking to make it a last stop? I guess you are single? Are you looking to find someone to live with? What activities do you like to do for fun and recreation? You need to find a place where you can have a life and enjoy it!

The Texas hill country is booming. There are plenty of homes and lots of available work in the areas around Austin and San Antonio. The two cities are pretty close but have very distinct personalities.

Summer can be a bit warm and it's not quite as green as you're used to but winters are really mild with ice and snow being very rare.

Here you can make $13-15 hr in construction and pay $1,300+ per month for a small apartment.

Not Maryland. The mountains are pretty and southern MD has some good food and nice folks but the taxes make it one of the worse states to live in.
