Just great. Now I want a vinyl-top stock-appearing 4-door like that with a turbo setup... laugh

Intercoolers could be hidden in the extra doors out back while also serving as ballast.
LOL
How did this thread go from Vinyl tops to turbo props. LOL.

SERIOUS GUYS, HAVE YOU EVER LOOKED AT THE CAVITY IN BETWEEN THE RADIATOR SUPPORT AND BUMPER ON THESE THINGS. On the '71-74 Chargers, there's even more room and nothing but dessert real estate there where it could serve as a gemini turbo lair.

Gee, I Have no idea: laugh2

"You know, I just realized that these cars are excellent candidates for twin turbo set ups up front. Lots of room and low bro look for the ultimate sleeper. No! I'm not going that route. A friend of mine just got a '71 Charger at Carlisle and I'm jealous. LOL."

We were talking about making your Coronet faster than Dizuster's '62 Savoy, but you kept rattling on about a vinyl top... laugh2

I don't know. Perhaps that color Gator would be too dark for my car as where my current tan top gives a contrast to the rest of the car. I could be wrong though. That gator is so fly.

No vinyl tops EVER. Stupidest invention in the history ov cars. Utterly destructive, ugly as [censored], heavier than not having one, more things to break (trim), and they ADD to the cost. Where's the win?

^ this

If you're going to paint it anyway, you could always leave the vinyl top trim and paint the roof a contrasting color, as was an option with our Mopars back in the day.

Top the same color as the rest of the car with vinyl top trim is dumb looking. Needs to be another color ,or fill the holes.

I like vinyl tops and they won't rust underneath if they are painted right. Factory only put a thin coat of primer overspray on those cars and that is why so many failed.

Ya know, big blocks drop in those things. Back in the day they were cop cars or at least detective cars. Ya already got the plain brown wrapper and dog dishes so why not? Add a spotlight and turbo or two if ya want.

My vote would be for no top, just looks cleaner to me. Tan vinyl tops remind me of my grandma's Landau Monte Carlo.

There is a vinyl top on my Duster and I'm not a huge fan of it. If I ever paint that car, the top will go. When I bought my Coronet one of the things I was looking for was no vinyl top.

However, removing the top involves filling holes and seams and a makes for a large area to prep. Our painter friend might not be so happy with that.

I would have to say that the side trim is the elephant in the room. Without it, the car would look better without a top and the body all one color.

Wait, i just realized who the OP is.

Do you have any idea how much a vinyl top, trim and glue weighs...?!???!??!?!? Are you mad? You've spent hundreds to save GRAMS ov weight. I'm surprised at you...

And that is just useless, non-contributive, ugly weight that will one day rust your roof right off and make baby Jesus cry.

Yes. I'm hoping that when it does the rust thing on the roof, the car will get lighter.
I'm having lightweight withdrawal syndrome and want to make things heavy again. LOL.

If the rest of the paint on the car is good then i would replace the top. IMO, Those tops look good on those cars in that time period.
