Fred Flintstone ........... " Rackem frackem " !!
The saga just gets better.
All I needed was the drive shaft to finish up...........swapped to a 9 " and added Cal Tracs , did some under hood stuff.
Had Strange build me a driveshaft.
I had the wife help me measure , since the kid who usually helps me with the car was working and I wanted to get the dimension to Strange so I would have the car ready for the following week end.
This involved paying 240.00 for next day shipping , but I wanted it bad.
Back to the 50's week end is a huge car deal up here and I wanted to shake it down with a couple miles on the street.
Well , the drive shaft got here in plenty of time.
But was 1/2 " too long.
Yeah.
We measured three times , but there obviously was a communication gap in where she should be holding her end of the tape.
Back to Strange it goes.
They cut it and rebalance it.
I get it in the car , top off fluids and go to fire it up.
My bad here.........the top bolt on the starter must have vibrated itself loose some time in it's past running state.
She kicked back once and now , sounded very different.
It hadn't fired , but was threatening to.
I get under her , to find that the starter snout has gone three piece on me.
On Friday evening at 5:30 or so.
I'm not going to find a high torque starter anywhere in town on this short of a notice.
So it will be here Monday.
I was hoping this day would be here a month ago , and now I am so close I can taste it.
Barring any more shenanigans , I should have a time slip in the very near future.
The curiosity is weighing heavier than the anticipation.

Hope your new starter arrives on time and it's correct.

Best of luck with your deal too.
There is always something getting in the way , or side tracking my wallet with this one.
I learned to let nature take it's course and not get too worked up when things go south though.

Any dodge magnum truck is a mini high torque starter and bolts right in.

Really ?
4:1 gear reduction ?
If this is the case , then once again , mistakes were made.
I am tickling 13:1 compression , and did not expect any factory piece to be up to the job.

I’m at 11.7 and had the same starter In a 12.7 motor. I think mine is for a 96 magnum truck. It doesn’t even hesitate. I’d say if you’re in a hurry it’s worth a try and any parts store will have it. Hope this helps 👍

Been using stock Nippendenso starters for ever! Our 13.5-1 W5, the W8 mill 13.5-1.... changing to the 904 required some grinding on the housing for fitment (R3 deal....). To the parts store young man!! ....or recycler. I’d pull a used one off a 90’s pickup all day long. Before you send the broken one back as a core, pull the copper contacts out of the solenoid. They’re probably still in excellent shape and can be handy to have around.

as said, those copper contact sets are just about the only thing you have to mess with, and new sets are only about 8 bucks or so retail.
you should be able to get them much cheaper searching around some.

Thanks , gents !
I will still try to get a snout from Power Master so I have a spare.
MSD said they don't sell parts , but Power Master rebuilds theirs and may have one laying around.
But NAPA will have a starter for a Magnum..........for sure.
You just saved me 70.00.
If and when we meet , lunch is on me. up

Sure beats 238 for the MSD or 158 for the Power Master.

I use the mopar mini starters also, they crank my 12.5 CR 440 with no problems. The stock height torque starter could not stand up to the task as it would go through starter drives.

Have a great day

I use a cheap ebay mini starter (~$60)...works great with my 13:1 408, almost no issues...first one failed within 2 months of use, sent it back and they sent me another and it has been good ever since. That was 6-7 years ago.

67 Barracuda street car, 408, e85, 1.38 60', 6.44 @105.9 in the 1/8 mile, 10.19 @130.5 in the 1/4...so far....
