My jobber just informed us today that Keystone is no longer going to be remaning bumper covers and will not be excepting bumper cores. So that leaves us in a pickle per say. We use to send aall of the ones we replaced in to the jobber and they then sent them to Keystone. We would trailer our scrap metal to a salvage yard about 3 miles away but he naturally does not want bumpers off of late model vehicles. Naturally if we replaced with an OEM they have the core charges on them so we would send them back in to the dealerships. The ones that are aftermarket supplied we naturally had a stock pile until we sent them into the jobber. So what are any of you doing out there? Cutting them up and into the dumpsters? Are you charging any additional disposal fees on the bills like you most likely do with hazardous waste? Lets hear some ideas. Is there services out there that take them and shred them up for other uses?

thanks

Ever try scrapping a frame? Yard wants the title! Told them it was a '18 pick-up truck that was repaired with a new frame. Still want the title?

Usually, if you break them down into pieces that fit in the dumpster, then the trash guys will pick them up. Or, if you buy from any salvage yards, they can put some in their 'crusher cars'. Most salvage yards can put 5 tires and several bumper covers in each car they crush. Silly, I know, but that is the law. At least here. Some farmers will take some to help with burning big brush piles. I had a farmer here a couple of years ago that wanted all the tires and bumper covers he could find to burn a couple of large green brush push-ups. Apparently, it's legal for them to use whatever to help burn brush.

And I have heard that some people burn them after dark.

Good read. I also receive some trade magazines, and there are a variety of processed being developed to break down plastics back into liquid hydrocarbon (synthetic oil). Must be India and China are starting to charge much more for our trash.

When I worked at the cement plant we burned used tires in the kilns and we paid for them too, even though you get charged a disposal fee when you buy new tires, lol. Someone's collecting at both ends of the deal.

How long that take? I do the frames at our Dealership (accident type) insurance gives about 22hr on average. Kind of a joke we fight them to get around 35hr. Lucky no rust issues(nuts&bolts) to deal with.

I've never seen book time for a frame and all necessary additional/not included operations anywhere near 22 hours. I've written hundreds of frame replacements over the years, never ever written one that was that low. Are you sure you're not being double-sheeted?

I do the towing for a Toyota store. When that recall started, the vehicle owner would bring the truck in for inspection. If the frame passed inspection,I would tow them 2 at a time to the next County {Suffolk} to be undercoated because that "tar" was illegal to spray in Nassau County. If they did not pass a new frame was installed. I musta towed at least 100 trucks!!!
