I just bought a 65 Coronet with 383 in it. I normally just have race cars but I have decided to take it easy and do some driving for a while so I bought this car. I have a couple questions. I need the kickdown linkage for the transmission. I know I cant use the stuff for a 65 because it has a 68-69 transmission in it. Is there any year in particular I need to get or a late 60's anything will fit. Also what is everyone using for a cooling fan. I have a stock 383 with 284-484 cam and not enough stall. So idling in gear the temp wants to creep up but as soon as I move it goes right back down. it has a Champion alum radiator in it and a stock mechanical fan. will a clutch fan work better if I can find one thin enough to fit and what about a shroud.

I would put a shroud on it first

Yeah I guess I have to make one. I don't think they came with one from the factory. I normally run a manual valve body and electric fan but I wanted to stay with some sort of mechanical fan if possible.

im not sure actually. I just got the car last week. it was a factory 273 car so I am assuming it is the original one. I need to measure the fan and the actual core of the radiator also just to see.

Use a lokar cable system for your t.v. and they do make a shroud for your year. mancini has them.

Early B body cars had a metal shroud. Pretty rare to find original ones but they are reproduced. They are heavy and ugly so don't feel like you need to use one though. Since you have an aftermarket radiator you should look it over to see what shroud (if any) it was designed for. Hopefully a late model molded shroud will work. Here is a picture of my '65 Coronet. I've modified things so a late model shroud fits and I installed a clutch fan. I also installed a coolant recovery tank. A late model setup like this should take care of any cooling issues but it does take some work to install.

A shroud works wonders. As Andy says, the "correct" one is metal, and spendy; and an aftermarket radiator may lack a mounting location.
Years ago I think I used a shroud off an Aspen on a 22".
The trick is adapting it, but I'd sure do it.
I had a 512" Duster that originally ran 190-210, aluminum radiator, no shroud; I adapted a shroud from Speedway, used a smaller WP pulley, and fitted an aftermarket flex fan.
After that the thing ran 160-170 even in traffic on a 90* day.

I measured last night. its the 22 inch from Champion. the core is 21x17 but I only have 2 1/2 inches from the water pump pulley to the radiator. I'll see if I can find a factory type with shroud built in but the 2 1/2 inches will be hard to find one that pulls enough air.

we use the Griffin cross flow in our early b-bodies - Griffin Performance Fit Radiators 8-00038 - almost bolts right in - If I remember you have to drill one or two hole in the flange to line up - by the far the best radiator I have used in these cars - have no problem with cooling and they make a shroud for them also - I believe

You need the shroud from a '70-up 6-Cylinder A-body, with Air Conditioning. That is what I use in my '65. I am running the radiator from the same application as well, re-cored as a 4-row. No clutch fan, 160 thermostat, stock '70 440-6. I've driven the car all over the place...PA, OH, MD, DE...only gets above 200 in traffic. Normally runs between 175-185 in regular driving, dependent on the ambient temperature. I also have a 3.23 gear.

The Lokar kit will work for the kickdown. I have used the Bouchillon Kits as well successfully.

I've been told by Dave Smith at Pro Trans to use the Buchillion (SP?) kick down cable instead of the other brands out there. On your deal if you have the 1965 kick down linkage I would try that first though, I've only seen two different versions of the stock kick down linkage on B body cars. A one piece single rod that is adjustable on one end and a three piece set up including the rod from the carb to the throttle cable bracket scope
The three piece set up has bell crank on a screw in stud that goes into the tranny case with a rod from the bottom end to the kick down lever and another up to the bell crank on the throttle cable bracket that hooks onto the rod to the carb. from the top bell crank wrench grin
I had two 1965 Coronet, one 440 and one 383 500 4 speed car, the 440 car had no motor or tranny in it when I bought it and I can not remember which parts I put in that car to sale it, 440 motor with a 727 I think confused

ill look into the Boucillian kit. I don't have anything for it at all as far as the kickdown. I will check into the fan shroud also.
