Hi all

I have a 2007 ram with a Noisy hemi

tried to find a junkyard motor in the same years range but didnt found what I was looking for

so a friend of mine who work as a mecanic at Chrysler dealer suggest me to buy a newer one and I would be fine

so I found a 2017 hemi with 20 000 miles on it for a decent price

but we found out the crankshaft tone ring ( reluctor Wheel ) wasnt the same

the 2007 have 32 teeths and the 2017 have a 50 plus teeths so Im kind of screwed

I know I can also swap the pcm and have it tune it but ... I already have a 2009 pcm on the shelf
that my friend say he can tune it but man I really dont wanna go that way

I WOULD LIKE TO KEEP it AS STOCK AS i CAN

does someone know if I can use the tone ring from my 2007 crank on my 2017
or have a reluctor ring laying around because he use strocker cranck

thanks Bob

You are also going to have to deal with the camshaft. The 2017 has variable cam timing and the 2007 does not so the 2007 computer won't work with the cam unless you lock the cam timing.

How many screws hold the ring on the crank of the 2017? The timing covers are different, different intake etc... I'm sure you can make it work, but your chrysler mechanic friend should have knew this all.

Use your relutor wheel from the 2007 it is a 3 bolt and will bolt to the crank. But you will need to remove the crank to do it. So $$$$$$
Your are going to run into more stuff that will trouble you. The new engine wont have a power steering pump location because they are electric.
Im assuming the 2017 is from a Ram.
Then you have sensors. Not 100% sure but they could be different and not physically fit.
You will have to lock the cam but the cam ring is the same as the early hemi.
Maybe simpler to use a newer PCM but i have no idea if you will able to mate it to the 2007 truck.

thanks Bob

I believe the newer 5.7s have 4 bolt reluctor/tone rings, maybe a 6.1 style will work. You could use an earlier eagle style timing cover to get power steering, but intake/throttle body is in a different location along with other accessories. I believe it can be done, but it would be much easier to get a 08 or older engine.

I think the change over from 3 to 4 bolt tone wheel was in 2016, I hooked up my builder up with a pai of police 5.7s both were 2015s , both had 4 bolt tone wheels, but the 5.7 in my daughters 2015 Challenger had a 3 bolt. all were 58 teeth.
you can use the 6.1 wheel or any of the aftermarket 32 tooth wheels.. My sons 08 2500 has a 2016, 6.4 in it, had to change the tone wheel while we were in there we did bearings and a new pump left the cam stock , we locked the cam at about 10 degrees retard from the full adavance postion. . had to use the 2016 front cover , mounted the Stearing pump where the 16 had the alt, and mounted the alt where the 16 had the air compressor , he did away with the air condition compressor before he swapped the 6.4 in.......Also FWIW , my 2010 Challenger stroker motor(408CI 4.03X4) is a 03 5.7 block and we used the 2010 VVT front cover....bother VVT and Non VVT timing covers will bolt on to all 5.7s but the older cover won't clear the VVT cam system. both cover have the cam timing sensor in the same spot and relationship to the tone wheel(on the cam gear ) is the same depth.
