Trans detailed and complete rebuild and ready to install Sunday. It was sent out for rebuild.
Just put new shifter on last night and realized reverse and 1-2 lever are locked. No or very little movement. 3-4 is fine rotating through all three locations. 3-N-4.
Quick fix or pull it back off?

And yes not happy the stud area is rounded over either... Going to have to pull it and replace I am sure...

try loosening the side cover just enough so it will move; then see if it will shift.

It looks like it is partially in reverse, try moving reverse lever toward the rear, a big crescent wrench works well. 1-2 and reverse do have an interlock cam.

Thanks guys. Trying both tonight. Will not be happy if I have to pull it back off when I have it detailed completely. It is still empty; no oil yet thankfully!
Thanks again!

Ya, you might want to remove the cover or at least make sure it has the long locating cover bolt under the lower wire retainer at the rear first. The no shift and fresh burred up lever would make me look, and scare me about the rest of the rebuild, who did it?

As others have said......

Loosen the cover and tap the rear lower corner of the cover UP as you tighten it down. A VERY slight amount of movement (maybe .010) is enough. The reverse gear ‘comb’ is right behind the cover plate and often it binds up on the case if the cover is slightly too far down.

I would mount the shifter unit & align all the rods per the FSM first, then run it though the gears one by one to check it.

That will eliminate some possible issues.

All great info! Cant wait to get out the office so I can go try a few things. I found this out at 2AM last night. We are bringing a TA down in under construction condition but still would like this trans at least shifting properly even though it will be rolling and not running..

Next question I have is... I have never built a trans so how hard is it change out that 1-2 shift lever now? Or has anyone welded up the rectangular contact area and reformed it for a tight fit?

Our engine builder did the trans and I already expressed my opinion to him on not letting us know about the lever and how that's not going to fly...
He is good but definitely missed the boat on that..

A lever change takes 1-3 minutes.
