It’s an electrical piece ? Does it sense that there’s moisture in the tank?

That is why I drain the water out of my compressor in the morning at startup. Some days there is a lot of water in the bottom of the tank, and some days there is very little. I open a gate valve on the bottom of the tank and leave it open until the water quits running out.
I work out of a 2 car garage. I have the water separater and a 90 degree shutoff valve before the quick connect. I use a 100' rubber hose that can reach anyplace in the shop and well past the doors. If needed, I have another 50' hose I can connect to the 1st hose. I can reach the street with my air. I have a 5hp 220 compressor rated at 15CF @ 90 psi with an 80 gal storage tank. Its worked pretty well in my welding shop for the last 15 years. Now that I've retired, I suspect it will last as long as I need it. Gene

I just keep my compressor drain cracked enough to bleed the water off and not loose too much water.

i do the same as gene. "after every use" does not mean the second you shut off the compressor. i also have this same basic setup as he does, but i also have a 60 gallon tank mounted in the roof trusses as an auxiliary tank 40ft away from the compressor. it has it's own drain, and get's drained at start up, but very seldom does it have any more than a few drops of water.
