Some of the older Fram 332 plus the later issue Mopar filters were a more closed screen material. Could be found with black or orange rubber

Andy, Years ago, I read about a test where they checked the actual flow of paper elements vs oiled cotton like the K&N. I wish I could remember where. It was interesting that the factory paper oval element, new, was only capable of flowing around 900 cfm which was adequate for a six pack, but if they got a bit dirty, the airflow dropped accordingly and restricted power. I see people on here frequently looking for dual quad filters and many of the posts show filters with elements that look to be maybe 1-1/2" tall and are not that big in diameter. I know on my Hemi dual quads, at first I ran a couple of the cheap Mr. Gasket 6x2.5" filters, until I fabbed up an A-12 dual quad base for my six pack hood. It uses a K&N sixpack filter and after I got my carbs dialed in with the wide band, I went back and put the 6" filters on and not only could you feel the power difference, you could see on the wideband that it was running richer due to less airflow. I was wondering if you might consider doing an article about the realities and restriction some of the commonly used airfilters? I believe most people might be surprised by how much horsepower they can be giving up with the wrong choice. From what a friends dyno tests showed, the extreme drop base single quads were some of the worst. One thing is for sure, you never see any real in-depth stories on the subject in the mainstream mags!

Stock/new....stock/used, baseplate Only, k&n short, k&n tall.

Maybe it's too geeky of a test but there are a few of us who would pay attention!

I have a K&N and a "Blue" Oiled one like the K&N one. The Dark Blue was cut and put in my Mr. Norm Air Cleaner.
Maybe it was an Air-Raid {sp?} the box is long gone
I really liked the Dark Blue look
I know this is not much help but wanted to out it out there

What are the measurements on the short and tall my 1969 440 air cleaner hits the hood on one corner?
So using the Mr. Norm when I drive it and the Oval 1969 to show.
Got another K&N for the T/A Ben Snobar set up he had some blems in 2005-2006 with wide lips

Sadly, it’s not worth the effort for a large manufacturer to put forth the effort and money.
Realistically, how many of these would sell, 500 a year?
Might be worth doing a 1 time run if someone was willing to buy a lot and sell them piece meal.

More than 500 a year would sell. You can't clean a paper filter - they are throw-aways. There are a lot of Mopars using these filters still very much in existence if you think about it. A good repop for a reasonable price ($65-70.00) & people would buy 3-4 of them initially. China would make these without batting an eye if none of the US manufacturers give a dam, & they probably don't. Stay tuned........

I have not used , but Summit shows a filter with the same dimensions as the E1980 K&N for $20.30 under Scott Drake S1MS-9601-A certainly not for restoration but function??

I can tell you with near certainty that that filter is not wide enough.

Correct.
Those air filter elements are for this type of Ford, air cleaner.

Just got an e-mail from Year One...

They have orange with round perforations for $124.93 and black with what looks like the mesh for $169.63.

I have no idea if these are exclusive to Year One or can be found elsewhere...

I have to wonder why the mesh are more expensive than the perf, being that the perf are correct for restoration?

I got the email also. It appears they both have the same round holes.

I see it now. I wonder what the supply is. Years ago Year One advertised A-body console four speed boots in a very misleading way. They indicated that they were NOS and possibly limited. They were, in fact, a Mopar Perf part. So, a little research into these might reveal a better price somewhere.
