are manual steering boxes all the same?
A body put in B body...etc?
I got a aluminum box out of an A body put into a 67 Satellite and the steering column comes up a couple of inches short. The swap meet purchased column is out of a 66 B Body.

can someone enlighten me please?

If you're car had power steering you'll need an adapter to go to manual.

Power and manual steering shafts are different lengths.

If you pull the box apart you can look for either a bushing or the more heavy duty needle bearings.

I'm not sure what the cutoff was at the factory as to where the car got the bearings.

Based on what i have seen over the years, I would say a big block got that box and small and slant 6ers got the bushing box.

I want my fair share

I have seen 2 of the universal joints that are on the end of the column put together. It had a piece of round metal stock on the inside with a hole drilled all the way through the joint with a pin in it, then the 2 joints were welded together. Has been on my friends car for 5 years now, still working fine. Also he did not have to cut the steering shaft, the extra coupler takes up just the right amount of slack. Hope this helps.

If you have a colapsable (sorry spelling) steering column you can extend the shaft from the plastic clips. When you get it the right length, weld the shaft solid through the cage for the column.
