Had the booked in “ Thunder Nationals” show at US131 last night, along with 2000 to win in top and modified bracket race.
My first time out all year, other that a rain aborted attempt several weeks ago. I pooped the bed. Went red, bought back in, went red again. Not so good........
Anyhow they had nitro altered’s, funny’s( nostalgia) alky stuff, jets, and the Chicago land super stockers as the featured pro cars.
Very nice show, and huge crowd because of the finally great weather.
Chicago super stocks guys brought 10 cars. All run in the 8’s and are wheelstanders
Don Edelstein( sp) who posts on here was on hand with his 68 Dart. Talked to him for a minute earlier in the day.

He gets paired with a shoebox 66/67 Nova, Don has left lane. Does a huge wheelstabd, and when it comes down he is flirting with the wall.
He keeps it off the wall, but gets out of shape, up on two wheels, crosses the centerline just around half track and “ kisses” the Nova.
Don drives on down the track, the chevy guys stops, gets out if his car and makes a big deal out of slamming his helmet on the ground in front of the big crowd.
Both cars had quarter panel damage, etc. but the damages are just cosmetic.
I am sure the Nova guy wasnt happy, but these guys are paid to hang the hoops with stout cars, accidents do happen. Edelstein actually did a very good job limiting the damage to what it was.

You would think that since they are a "team" he could have waited until they got back to the pits at least.

I can understand that the testosterone and emotions can run pretty highly, especially when there's an "incident".
But I don't think it's a brand thing - though I could tell you a couple stories about some Ford guys I used to hang & race with at the track...

Sportsmanship in auto racing died many years ago as it has with most other sports. Competitors are just wound too tight nowadays.

Sounds like he not only got his quarter bent but ruined his helmet too.

It's not like Don hit him on purpose. Don's got more money than God anyway, he'll probably take care of the guy.

You guys are really cool apparently. I'd be pissed too. Sure it's no one's fault but I'd still not be all smiles because my car got smashed. What's next, a happy dance when you spit a rod?

Pull of the track into the return road, or go back to the pits.
But DO NOT stop on the track and hold everyone else up.

No, not at all, but I can guarantee you I will NOT throw my $250 helmet on the ground because it'll be junk if I do.

All the guys in the group are good guys,except this guy unfortunately. He just doesn't comprehend that when you line up,and let go of that button anything can happen. Basically how B3422W5 explained it. The car was headed to the wall after coming down, and I tried to steer it off the wall and got in trouble.

When did you get out of it?

As soon as I felt the car going towards the center line I lifted. In retrospect I should of dumped when the car came down and saw it was headed to the wall. But you have to understand that its easy to say that now,but when its actually happening it so fast its a blur. Unfortunately there are no do overs.

Awesome video of the race coverage. The troubled run sucks but you've also made a million safe passes in that car with no problems.
