The narrow flaring is an aftermarket flange that accepts only the Green bearing. Somebody did a nice job of welding it on and blending it into the housing.
The factory housing end needs to be deeper to accept the bearing retaining collar and seal.

The top housing is a 1974 model. 1974 only? Wild. Any other differences that year? Were the axles/bearing setups unique as well?
