Hi there,
1st post, long time lurker looking for an answer that will save my back and some friendships in the process.

I have a Stage V hemi conversion kit that I am working on. I know, not a real hemi, not a strong block, ect. I have always wanted one and never seem to be able to find a "real" 426 for anything that resembles a reasonable price. So, I found this kit that I have long known about for a deal. So here I am with 2 complete heads and a new LOW deck intake from StageV, a very nice piece by the way.
However, the heads have a low port. If they had a high port, a standard 426 header would fit with my 400 block. I called TTI and they said they have never fitted a header to this combo and good luck. I have a 520 stroker wedge in the car now with 2 1/8 TTI headers and I'm trying to measure and picture the tubes 3/4" down and in. It looks promising, but that doesn't mean s&*t in the real world.
Before I have to pull the current motor, mock up a block with heads, bellhousing and transmission and drop into the car. Has anyone really done this?
I haven't built a short block yet so I am not really tied to having to make it work. However, the intake would cost $550 to replace with a RB one and the guy before me paid $650 for the current one. I would be inclined to make use of it. I have both a 400 and 440 block either way.
Thanks for the time.
Mike

I applaud you for doing something different. I always wanted to do a 400 block with the Hemi conversion heads in an A body. You can always have headers made on the car.
Good Luck with your combo.

Custom headers might be your only choice for a low deck. I don't think it would be terribly expensive to have a set of spacers hogged out to fit the intake on a raised block and use the TTI setup.

Many years ago on a 68 Charger 440 car, we were shipped 383 headers. They would not fit. We finally figured that out and called TTI. They shipped us some 440 headers they fit perfect.

Yeah, I have had custom headers made in the past. The price is $1500 lately.
I can buy TTI at distributor price of $627. I would like to use the almost $800 on other parts of the project. Funny, I should have started earlier because I now have to pay a $900 premium over my build estimate just for the sake of California sales tax ! I was just thinking the other day that me and my business don't pay our fair share
Thanks for the replies, I'll have a week or two before I have to make a decision as to which block to take to the machinist.
Anyone want or need a new low deck hemi intake ??

Building a unique combination means paying extra for lots of stuff. You seem to be really concerned with the prices of stuff which doesn't fit with the type of project that you're attempting to do. A low deck Hemi is going to be a one of one and it will cost a lot more to build.

What's the goal?
Nothing made from a B block will inherit the huge volume of data, reccos, tune-up specs that a 426 RB will (not re-inventing the wheel). Scaling down the existing dimensions (especially de-stroking) has disappointed many, many people going back over 80 years, including Chrysler and Harley-Davidson.
Among those that will need A > B comparison, if not actual tweaking, are:
different manifold characteristics, both plenum volume and runner length
rod ratio
intake:exhaust port flow bias
spark advance
cam LSA and install point
crankcase pumping
piston dome shape w/r/t overlap breathing and spark flame front

The goal was as stated in the first post. I was attempting to use parts on hand to complete a project. I am not looking for a max effort type motor. Price is always a concern, I have 4 cars all wanting a piece of my pay at the end of the day. Ironically, I'm looking to tame the car down from it's current configuration ( 520" 440-1 indy heads w/ roller) to a car that can be used much more like I did when it and I were both 17 years old.
I was just hoping that maybe someone had already done this and had a answer to the question.
I'm just going to build a another 4.15 or 4.25 stroke 440 with less compression and a more efi compatible cam. 550 to 600 would be an ideal output in this car with a 4 speed and manual steering. Any more and the car is just trying to see if it can get you to crash. Especially when everybody around me is treating driving like IT's the distraction from a phone or text.
I run a transport company with 4 trucks delivering new cars all day long. I'm tired of cars that are not completely drive able anymore.
Much like a HD hard tale, looks good but nobody wants to ride very long or far.
Thanks for the replies
