I picked up a 440 air grabber air cleaner the other day and it needs a new element. I looked around and I can only find two choices. The K&N E-1980 or the reproduction element that lots of people sell. Is that it? So nobody like Fram or Wix or anybody like that makes a replacement element?

Mancini has this one. Is this one of the repros you were talking about? It actually looks pretty good.

I may be missing something, but I don't see a "add to cart" button leading me to believe Mancini is out of stock on that filter.

All the regular replacement parts suppliers stopped making them several years ago, leading to hoarding as well as hoarders cashing in.

The only other one I know of is the taller K&N, the 3840.

I always thought the taller element looked cool and it might make enough of a functional difference to be noticeable.

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/knn-e-3840

I had collected three NOS Fram filters that had the shield with round holes and sold them off recently, replaced them with a 3840 for a project later and had a
few hundred left over.

If your interested in a nice repro of the OEM oval FRAM filter, "Tommy the Chryco" has some nice repro units available $125 each....I recently picked up 2 of them, and compare very well to my original/NOS units

Oops, looks like you're right. My bad, sorry.

Right, I used an E-3840 on a six pack setup a few years back. The taller element doesn't bolt into one of these air grabber setups though since the air cleaner studs will be too short to reach the top. I'm sure that can be solved of course. If the reproduction one isn't available then I suppose I'll end up using the K&N one.

Thanks but this is a '72 Duster with a 512 inch EFI engine so it doesn't really need NOS parts.

Yes it is close to be ready to fire up. I need to connect a few wires and put water in the radiator and it will be ready to run. The engine ran fine on the dyno so the EFI tune should be close. The biggest issue is that I don't have the exhaust system finished yet and it is going to take me some work to piece that together.

K&N must have figured out Fram isn’t making these any more.
$100 Yikes!
I paid under $40 just a couple of years ago for it.

Sticker shock! Holy crap - over $100.00 for one of these.

I'm going to talk with a few of my filter reps & see if a 3rd supplier is interested in tooling up.

What was the original Fram # on these? (332?)

The Fram CA332 with the round holes is the most sought after.

Like this one: Link

Or this one CA 332V: Link 2

And finally this one: Link 3

Fram made a few versions CA332, CA332V. Some had black rubber versus orange, some with diamond mesh instead of round holes. Maybe a real expert will chime in to help some more.

Yeah I'd think someone could make one and sell it for $30 or $40 bucks without too much trouble. Doesn't need to look like the original, just be functional.

The big stumbling block is going to be tooling cost, plus a small production run. UNLESS one of the filter companies already has tooling & all they need to do is set-up. I'll dig into it.

*ALSO: which old Fram was the original style - original issue? (as I recall, they had orange rubber with round hole screen???)

I've got two of the mesh filters left that are brand new. One for my Barracuda and one for my son's Dart. I have read where some people have been successful at cleaning them. I bought a bunch in the 90s when they were $15 at Kragan/O'Reilly and never threw away the used ones.

I also think there might be a market for new ones around $50 or less.

A customer of mine a couple years ago bought one of the current repop restoration elements for his 6 pack Challenger RT/SE
Within days the rubber around the edge was peeling away from the screen , both top and bottom. He said seemed like every time he opened the hood there was orange rubber strips laying on the manifold or about ready to fall off.. Needless to say he WAS NOT happy.
Last I heard he pulled it out and bought a K+ N

This is my personal opinion and nothing more.
BUT,
Look for one in the following,,, in order.
NOS original.
The old fram 332V filter
one of the later model Mopar or Fram screen elements
last but not least a K+N

Not sure I can recommend the current repop element ever again, UNLESS somethings changed I'm not aware of with the manufacturing process to avoid the issue mentioned

Last I looked these were pulling $150 and up now IF you can find one
FRAM 332V filters. my gutt says the tooling still exists
