I just got released from a three day stint in hospital with septic cellulitis, The weird thing is there were three other patients admitted the same day or right after with exactly the same issues as me. The doctors have no clue as to why so many people come down with the same problem at the same time.
The standard antibiotics did nothing to stop the spread so they game me a more "effective" type that is starting to work and sent me home just now.

The nurse thinks it could be from some bug bite that are super resistant to antibiotics. Going to laid up for a few more days i guess.

Is the Zombie Apocalypse starting? panic

Looks like my friend's leg. He's got some severe diabetes (otherwise relatively healthy, and young, just way overweight). Not sure how long his initial onset was, but it can flare, even now to twice its horror in no time at all.

I was in the hospital for a week last September with it. Missed four weeks of work in total. Worse than pneumonia or mononucleosis for me. My brothers step son got it shortly after I did and had a worse time with it, recovery for him was months.

Did they ever figure out the initial cause of the infection??

The fact that three other people and myself came in at the same time was very unnerving my nurse said. They "think" it may be a spider or other insect that bites and it's poison that usaully be fought off by the bodies immune system is way to strong and it's become antibiotic resistant now. That's just one theory.

Bad news sorry you got infected Stu. My father first started getting it in his late 80's and had it flare up every year until he passed at 94. His leg and feet would get so swollen they looked like a balloon ready to burst. Very painful. Would have to be in hospital each time. Tried several specialists and all kind of meds each time and were just guessing what to try next. Never found a cause. I also have a 40 year old friend that caught it last year cause unknown. Problem is if you get it once it almost always returns. Prayers sent. Mike

I had cellulitis and shingles in my left leg last February. Doctors tried 2 different oral antibiotics that did absolutely nothing. Ended up in the hospital for 4 days on IV stuff. Only took 8 bags this time, last time it happened it took 17 over 5 days. I have lymphadema in my legs, so my skin has no immune system anymore. This bout started with the flu, and went downhill from there.

Absolutely no clue. I was fine Sunday evening, Monday morning 3 week old kittens were kicking my hind end. I knew my leg was hurting and looking something like the pic you posted but thought almost nothing of it. White cell count was well over 20,000 and stayed there for days.

Many many hours of IV's, sulfa drugs and some damnably expensive pills knocked it out. Still took two weeks after release to get back to work, another month to get back to normal.

Im glad your ok and hope it heals quickly. Spooky stuff. I do wonder why so many at the same time. No being criticle here of Cali in this cas but I watched a interview with Dr. Drew who I think lives in S cal and he said there is alot of bad bad stuff going on with all the homeless and all the negative things it brings communities and environments.

As Slant wrote, I have lymphadema in my legs, so my skin has no immune system anymore.

My last time I spent two months bedridden, could not even get up to goto bathroom. I SHOULD of used the pain pills but didnt. I wrap one leg each night ti get the fluid back up and have a drain I can get nastly lymph fluid out of a bad node each day.

I bet many of us never seen this coming as we got older.

Yes, numerous articles about the number of diseases being spread in the large urban areas where homelessness is growing. Guess that's the price we pay for people wanting to emphasize high home prices as an asset is that more people end up without a place they can afford and then for some it's a downhill slide..

Get better, Stu!

I know the pain and frustration of cellulitis, as I had a small infection in my left leg a couple of years ago. After oral antibiotics and IV antibiotics, they had to operate to get it out. Told me to apply Cereve cream every night and morning to seal any small cracks. All was good until yesterday. My leg looks like yours Stu, and I am keeping it elevated for now to see if the redness spreads. Next step will be the ER. I hope yours will clear up soon !
