When I had my 2011 SRT I paid $400 every 6 months. $100 ded collision, zero on comp. Included road hazard, rental, uninsured motorist . medical pay.

Where you live plays a big roll in rates

Yes Doc, you're being over charged. Insurance is mandate by states, and insurance companies are going charge whatever you're willing to pay. All you can do is shop around...or walk.

I'm guessing location does play a big part in it, as mentioned. Here in metro Atlanta we pay about $900 a year on the wifes car. An R/T would have been nearly double that. One of the reasons we bought an SXT. wink Blast to drive with the V6 and we don't have to feed it premium. grin

It's not about YOUR record.

It's about the car's record.

When I bought my Challenger last year, I compared the insurance costs between it and a Charger, same trim level and options. The Charger was less to insure than the Challenger. I would have guessed it would be the other way around with the 4dr vs 2dr scenario. An Scat Pack Charger would have been close to a 5.7 RT Challenger..

others have suggested it but i will state it outright.
a large factor in determining insurance rates is the percentages that particular car actually gets into a crash. in certain cases from people i know it's cheaper to insure a GT500 mustang then a stripper V6 mustang.

as someone posted it's cheaper to insure a hellcat charger than it is to insure a hellcat challenger.
performance models are higher to insure. but to counter corvettes are fast but insurance is extremely cheap on them. with the newer ones hitting the market now this trend might be in no longer the case..

as far as air bags being costly. front air bags are actually cheaper today then they were first introduced on the market.
another added cost on air bags is side curtain bags. when they deploy you usually have to replace the $$$ headliner. on some models you have to remove the windshield or the back glass to do it.

There's nothing wrong with the sensors. Bags aren't designed to deploy based upon the severity of the damage. They deploy based upon the rate of deceleration, and the location/angle of the impact.

Not correct. It's about your record, the car's record, the records of people similar in age/location to you, and several other things.

I'm paying $230.00/yr. for my 2016 Scat Pack Shaker Challenger. 0 deductible on comp & collision. *This is for pleasure driving though - I can't use it for work or everyday driving. Yes I am covered out-of-state & there is no limit on annual mileage, plus it's stated value ($45,000). I would not buy & drive a car like this anyway for my "driver" vehicle, so this works perfectly for me. I had contacted Hagerty to see if they would even insure a late model like this & they said sure - $1300.00/yr., & no break for the 7 months the car is not driven because of weather.

Insurance for these is only one of the "extra" costs. If its your daily you can add a tank of premium a week, the tires will be bald (even the fronts) after a year, synthetic oil changes, Brembo brake maint. etc. They cost a lot more than a regular car to run FYI. This is why you see a lot of them for sale that are a year or less old, people never considered what they cost to actually run daily. If you live where it snows tack on another $1500-2K for a snow tire package, and make em 20's to fit over the brembos.

There has GOTTA BE more reasonable rates out there.

Thoughts ?

Move back up north and that rate will drop big time. Welcome to Florida, home of the insurance rip off.

I used Grundy for my late model stuff
Pleasure driving only (can't use it to go to work..ect ect)

17 Scat Pack $600 a year
16 Hellcat $640 a year

I live in FL

I had called USAA my daily driver insurance company.
Same driving use $3200 a year
I guess my 35 years with USAA didn't mean much.

On a side note
USAA wanted to finance my home purchase, but would not insure a home in FL

Its all about the $
