On my 69 RR, my one park lamp (bumper mounted) has a rusted out bulb socket. The housing is fine, I am looking to change out the socket-pigtail. I bought another housing/pigtail from an a body and want to swap the good one into mine. Has anyone tried this and know the proper way without messing up either the housing or the pigtail/socket? It appears to be crimped in on the inside of the housing; where the bulb goes.

Just trying to get some good advice from someone who has done this before I attempt it. The B body housings are not reproduced and are hard to find, so I am trying this way first. Pics of what I got and then the new one that is on the way:

Thanks,
Mark

I would imagine that you would need to crimp the socket inward till it is free to come out the front of the housing & maybe do some dremeling

I cut the old socket off with a cutoff wheel and worked the little pieces until the socket pieces came out of the housing. I cut the rear of the donor housing off and sliced the housing parts until they wiggled off the socket. I had one split on the socket flange and "screwed" it into the good housing like a screw. I slid the pig tail into a piece of conduit and used the tapered 1/2 drive sockets like punches to roll the crimped part back flat and then a kingpin that I had from a past project to flatten out the "ring" and get good contact for current.

How about fitting it with a replacement snap in socket like this. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Pico-5441C-Universal-Tail-Light-Socket/133082038031?

Do this!
Mike replaced my Challenger pigtails, there was no way I could got this done myself, and the work was flawless.
Thx again Mike, you’re truly an asset to the hobby.

Oh man, I wish I had asked this question before I bought the other housing! I'll give it a try myself then if it doesn't work, I'll send the one to you Mike. I just need the one done.
