Several years ago, I bought a set of Foose Legend Chrome plated aluminum wheels for my wifes Plum Crazy 70 Cuda. They really looked great and set the car off, but after about 7 months, they started getting ground pepper sized bubbles coming up under the chrome and I mean like a bad rash. I called just about everybody up to, but not including Chip Foose(A'int happenin) and basically got blown off. These wheels have been sitting in storage for several years and I was looking at them the other day and thinking what a waste they were . A $200 dollar wheel is not worth spending much money on but with all the technology around, like wraps, is there something that could be done? Is having them dechromed even an option, and if so, does anyone know what that would run? I don't think you can powder coat over chrome. I just hate to see a fairly new set of wheels get thrown away cause the rash really looks bad.

I had a set of chrome clad factory wheels blasted and powdercoated, and they look decent. The coater suggested I use a textured coating to cover up some of the big corrosion pits. If yours aren't heavily corroded like mine you should be able to get away with a smoother finish type coating. I paid $200 for all 4 wheels.

Unfortunately, they are made and plated in China. Near as I can tell, they must have plated directly over the aluminum instead of a nickel base, then chrome, which is porous. Slantzilla, did your powder-coater do both the blasting and coating? For $200, that was well worth it. The "bubbles" under the chrome are not deep, about like the texture and size of ground pepper and is mainly in patches on the barrel, the spokes are relatively clear. I may have to give some powdercoaters a call.

Yes, they blasted and coated them for $50 a wheel. I am very happy with the way they look.

Rust pitted chrome ? .... boy did I fugg up on a chopper I bought. Had it stored with a cover at my condo on a salt water canal and man the long front folks are A MESS. Luckily the bike is black ... I think the only way of saving this is to use that spray on Plastic Coat. Oh - the exh pipes are a mess too ... but I was thinking about putting on a good two into one system anyways

Chroming aluminum historically is hit and miss. The Cragar 5 spokes had a chrome plated aluminum hub and ALWAYS peeled. Not insulting you choice in wheels but when I hear the name Foose I think of a dechromed shaved handled slammed to the ground 22" wheel Dodge Challenger.
Keep old mopars alive.
