Hey all,

Can you tell by just this picture if this 1973 truck 440 is Internal or External balanced?

Thanks

Common sense and caution are factors which cannot be built into any product. These must be supplied by the operator.

I've seen a 400 truck stick shift motor(1976 3/4 ton pick up) with the thin balancer like yours that had a bunch of holes drilled on the back side of them for external balanced motors, that motor had a forged steel crankshaft in it also confused shruggy
I would pull the dampener to see if it has a bunch of holes drilled in it also scope If so count on the motor being external balanced twocents
That motor may have the big wide six pack type rods in it also scope If so sell them heavy rascals and buy some good forged steel H or I beam rods up

A '73 truck was most likely a forged crank and internal balance. I believe any drilled holes are for mass balance, external balance is by the eccentric on the inner hub.

All I know is that balancer is for an internal balanced engine.

Balancer Info This is pertinent to your question but I agree with the others, looks like an internal balancer to me.
