This is a big kick in the gut to the Mopar, and Drag Week community. I have been lucky enough to meet, and talk with Billy, Rachel, and the brothers, at Drag Week since 2015. At least once every year, Billy, and I, had about a hour long conversation about life, cars, and just some laughs. In 2017, we were in Cordova Illinois for the start of Drag Week, and I had asked Billy what changed his mind about going that year since he had considered taking the year off? He looked right at me and said, "Monte (Smith) passing away, really got me thinking. I really only get to spend a couple weeks a year with my brothers, and family, and I'm not passing up the opportunity to make memories with them, as we just never know when any of our times up."

I'm still at a lose for words,

He is a big part of why I went to dragweek. Your family was more then helpful when I had problems, and was hoping to return the favor at a future dragweek.

I’m glad you had the opportunity to meet Billy Jeff... one can try to explain him, but you just gotta live the experience. I actually met Billy via this board. Back in the day we had Mopar Shootout Southwest events where at one grand meeting in Tucson his family travelled out for the event.... nobody went hungry for sure. What a wonderful bunch of people! There’s a few track memories.... the time he showed up for a Hot Teams event and had a leaky fuel line.... zip ties and a rag and send it!! His super street days where in a sea of stackers and totors sat this 94 1500 pickup and open 16ft trailer.... he was a racers racer 😎. This sucks.... our last banter centered around running the small tire class at MaTS. He’d bought some new wheels to run that class and then opted out.... now we know why. It’s crushing..... I guess we’re all on a schedule and most of us are probably closer to the end than where we started.... I just wasn’t expecting Billy to be called to the tower... not yet. I hope you get this note Billy... please be at peace and we love you man! Prayers to your family bud...

I was fortunate to have met Biily once briefly.

My wife and I were at the Arizona Nationals in 2013 and I had been trying to track down Al.Alguire to arrange to see that wagon he had for sale then. You'd think a guy with lake front pits and a big motorhome would spend a little time there but I digress...

So it's getting into early evening and we go to make one more lap of the pits to see if I can catch Al and who do we meet but Al and MoparBilly G!

I introduce myself and my wife and I tell them it's my lucky day, I came to meet one Moparts Icon and I get to meet two. We head towards the parking lot and we visit for the few minutes that takes and I remember thinking as we all went our separate ways, I have just met two genuinely good people.

As sombre as this news is, I can't help smiling thinking about that chance meeting even tho smiling Is the last thing i feel like doing...

Kevin

I am really sorry to read this. The Gebhart family will be in our thoughts. I always enjoyed reading Billys adventures from Drag Week. RIP Billy! You will be missed in the Moparts community. Ted angel

So sorry yall, but he was so fortunate to have such a loving family by his side through all of this. I only met him once, briefly, but could tell he was a good fella.
RIP Billy.
