How do you adjust the seat back position?

I read another thread and saw I didn’t have the correct HW. So I ordered the parts and installed it, but it feels like I’m sitting in a low rider ready for a drive-by it leans back so far.

Pic shows what was originally in there and put my seat in good position.

I tried adding washers to “correct” HW but running out of threads.

What am I doing wrong?

Your bump stop is upside down on the adjuster for starters. (narrow ring down is correct)

The typical way is to adjust the latch opposite the bump stop so it latches, then adjust the bump stop down until that meets the lower contact washer.

Do you have a photo of the seat in the car?

It may have a bent frame or broken weld.

Do you have the correct seat tracks?

You’re probably on to something.

My seat has never latched. I don’t have to push the release to tilt the seat back forward.

I was under the impression this bumper set the tilt of the seat back.

So what can I check on the latch mechanism, or what does adjust the tilt?

The 'tilt' is not intended to be adjustable. (unless you have a manual 6-way seat adjuster, an extra cost option)

Which is why I asked for photos of what you have, something may be wrong.......

There was a factory recall letter issued for seats that did not latch - www.hamtramck-historical.com/images...folding%20seatback%20recall%20letter.jpg

But I have also seen bent frames & broken welds.

Is it too late for me on that recall? smile

When I say tilt, I’m referring to the angle of the seat back.

Anyone have a pic of a disassembled seat to show how the latch mechanism should look/ work?

Would the seat cover have to come off to see what’s happening?

barry is right on the money about the bent and broken back frame situation. in every case i have seen with the "gangsta' lean" [i'm a poet 'n don't know it ! laugh2] , it was a bent or broken frame, or both. several times i have been able to fix them by skinning back a small section of the cover for the repair, but mostly, the cover has to come off.
also, if the frame is bent, it's a good idea [in my opinion] to reinforce the bent area to prevent it from bending again, forcing you to repeat the repair. after all, the assembly is 50 years old and has been through countless cycles in it's lifetime. the other option is to acquire another seat frame.
